I’m surprised nobody is smuggling fuel in from other states.

I feel sorry for the Freepers that have to live in the same state as all the brain dead politicians they have there.

Those brain dead politicians came from somewhere else. California used to be a conservative state, until liberal whackjobs flooded in from every other state. Then they welcomed the illegals in. If you're a native, you ask lib people where they're from and it isn't California. There are a few exceptions (like gov Jerry and queen Dianne). Most libs are from somewhere else. What happened here is spreading elsewhere, not necessarily our fault. I like to blame NY, because there are so many transplants from NY.

By raising the price, officials hope to reduce the number of miles driven as consumers are forced to consider options.

And when that happens, they will have to raise taxes to make up for the shortfall the reduced driving produced.

It's a good idea. Our fuel is weak, cut with a lot of ethanol. My truck likes out of state gas.

If they can smuggle Mexicans in, why not fuel from Mexico? It could be a lucrative business.

The California Air Resources Board, the Golden State's premier anti-pollution agency, predicts the new tax will raise gasoline prices from 20 cents to $1.30 per gallon.

So what IS the additional tax per gallon? Are they just floating a trial balloon to see how deep Kalifornians will take it in the ah, er, wallets without squealing too loudly?

We should raise the minimum wage for everyone to $1000 an hour and make us all rich!

It’s a shame that they’ve ruined such a beautiful state. I would trade the all year temps of San Diego for the ones here in Louisiana. I wouldn’t trade the food here for anywhere.

The revenue… "to build low-income housing near mass-transit hubs and support construction of the state's high-speed rail project."

Low income people aren't going to make a difference, that's a free giveaway to them. And the high-speed rail won't be used by many people, also little effect. This is sucking money out of the pockets of hard-working folks, to throw it away on stupid projects. Again and again, politicians are our worst enemies.

China is not in California!

Try telling that to the politicians, they won't listen. Lots of unhealthy air is blown here from China. Industry and vehicles here are clean, and "experts" are at a loss to explain smoggy days here when they only have to look west at the jet stream carrying the bad air to us from China. You could shut down every vehicle in California and the smog will still travel here from China.

"I think it’s terrible," added Lupe Sanchez, pumping $4.09-a-gallon gas at a Chevron near Santa Monica.

I wonder which political party Lupe votes for...

The backlash will make Prop 13 look like a skirmish.

Don't mess with CA driving and mobility. They will turn your a$$ out in the street without regard for any other political position.

Mark my words.

Who will this effect the most ? Why the middle class and poor! I am amazed the moonbeam and the other barking at the moon liberals keep encouraging the illegal immigration of unskilled, ignorant hungry mouths to a state that insists on driving out industry and making it as expensive as possible to live in! They have driven up the cost of damn near everything.

No more plastic bags at the grocery store, but what the hell, considering how little people can afford to buy they won't need them and since they won't be able to afford to drive to the store it will work out since all they can afford will fit in their two hands, making the walk easier!
