California To Appeal Teacher Tenure Ruling A August 30 2014 LOS ANGELES: California Gov. Jerry Brown has filed an appeal of a court ruling that struck down tenure and other job protections for the state's teachers.

Attorney General Kamala Harris filed the appeal late Friday on behalf of the governor and the state.

The move came a day after Superior Court Judge Rulf Treu finalized his June ruling that found five laws violated the California Constitution by depriving some of the state's 6.2 million students of a quality education.

The governor's brief appeal cites the need for the issues to be addressed by a higher court and says Treu's decision lacked details on the legal basis for his reasoning.

California's schools chief said Friday that he will seek an appeal of a court ruling that struck down tenure and other job protections for teachers.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said he has no authority to challenge the ruling by a Los Angeles judge, but he will ask the state attorney general to appeal.

I can’t imagine any reason that a teacher or professor should be awarded tenure. If you can’t make it year after year as a teacher on your merits, you should choose another profession.

These are the same folks who line up to monopolize “minority” rights, now stand against the schoolhouse door from having them get a decent education.

In all my years as a student and college level teacher (part time), I have yet to run into many tenured professors that were worth a crap. Once tenured, they were more interested in writing or research than teaching.

I, for one, would agree that the tenured concept should be done away with. Let college level teachers and professors make it on their ability to teach.

Brown is a #1 asshole in the state of calidoom. Where was he on Prop. 187? Divide, divide and divide until California is no more.

Kamala harris wants to protect the pedophiles and perverts and keep them in the classrooms with the children. This is what happens when liberal sex perverts become teachers and are protected by the union and the unions gives Governor Brown millions of dollars to overturn laws

Jerry Brown is pure Democrat. The State of California has OD’d on this guy, and is almost dead.

I want tenure! I want to be in my chosen profession and be part of the protected class. It's my turn, my turn, my turn.

Attorney General Kamala Harris filed the appeal late Friday on behalf of the governor and the state.

I think this more about Harris expressing her ambitions for the governor's chair rather than being about Jerry Brown.

Frankly, I think at ANY level teachers should have to be like the rest of us. In California even convicted felonious behavior won’t necessarily get you fired. Look at the mess in southern California where a creepy pedophile sued for being fired after feeding children cookies with semen as icing......what a travesty
