California lawmakers have approved a measure that would make the state the first to impose a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags.
SB270 cleared the Senate on a 22-15 vote Friday and sent to Gov. Jerry Brown. It was approved by the Assembly a day earlier.

For real. Total idiocy.
(sorry for the language).
I don't travel much beyond a 50 mile radius these days ... retired and no need or desire to go anywhere, so all I see is my relatively clean SW Pa.
Can’t use paper, kills trees.
Can’t use plastic, it doesn’t rot.
Can’t use fabric, promotes microbial, fungal growth, and viral transport.
Just tell everyone they can’t shop then!
Idiots, the lot of them.
What's left? Bring your own cloth bag? Unsanitary mess being brought into the grocery store by God knows who.
I guess liberals believe nobody buys more than a handful of groceries at a time...
Any Democratic initiative has been about either removing money from tax payers or steering the citizenry towards favoured businesses and industries.
Is it Big Paper begin this?
California should just get it over with and pass a law to make the state the first to impose a statewide ban on US citizens living in California.
Glad they got right on this because it’s definitely the most pressing issue the state faces.
Kevin de Leon is a certifiable halfwit.
These leftists are are modern Ludites and Communist, and stupid as all can be.
Doggie poo bags
are single use. Are they included in the ban? Garbage can bags are single use. Are they included? If not, they'll be next. How do you handle stalks of corn or other vegetables at the market, just toss them in a dirty shopping cart? Gonna be a lot of turmoil from this ban. How about we ban democrat politicians by sticking plastic bags on their heads; they'll be multiple-use plastic bags.
I use the bags more than once.
ONE; to bring my groceries home.
TWO; to pick up the progressives the dog leaves on the lawn.
First plastic bag ban in the United States huh? The writer clearly didn’t do any research.
They have been dealing with this bullshit in Eugene Oregon for at least a year now.
Why are they called progressives when they do everything they can to stamp out human progress?
They pass these dumb ass laws because they can.
No other reason.
I use them for the litterbox, harvesting produce(soon they’ll probably make gardening illegal), carrying things, trash bags
In 1992 or so I rode the train through Mexico from Juarez all the way to Guatemala. About a mile outside of any town the right of way looked like a garbage dump... as the Mexicans on the train just heave their empty bags and food wrappings out the window as the train leaves.
The solution to clean up the plastic bags is to require each welfare recipient to go out and pick up the bags and exchange them for food stamps.
I mean: No bags.....no food stamps.....period!
I don’t think it’s just grocery shopping bags. When you go to a clothing store, you won’t get a plastic bag for your new items. The Apple store is going to have to use paper bags now, too.
The trees shown in the picture are definitely not mesquite trees.
I can’t remember the exact name of them but it starts with a “w”.
I live in South Texas and believe me....I know what a mesquite tree is.
I remember going to the county landfill (trash dump)several years ago after a particularly windy storm system passed through. The leeward side was a surreal landscape of trees, bushes and brush all with plastic bags trapped in their branches. I wondered at the time how long it would remain like that. I’m not sure exactly when the landscape became free of the bags but eventually it did.
LOL Clueless CA, up to its eyeballs in illegals and Marxists, and rapidly descending to third-world status, passes icky little laws such as a ban on plastic bags, while the Left is decimating the economy of the state. CA will achieve Detroit status in our lifetime.
Weesach, or Huisache bush
However, plastic bags made in Mexico are welcome in California.
My wife washes them out and reuses....not because she’s enviromentally conscious but because she’s a tight a$$.
No, those are not Huisache either. Huisache have very tiny leaves and those shown have very long leaves. That type of tree also has a green trunk and limbs.
The name of the tree (excuse the spelling) sounds like “waheia.”
They’ve got it all backwards. It should be a Democrat politician bagman ban.
It takes 84 times more energy to recycle a paper bag than a plastic one. Idiots.
We’ve solved our massive budget deficit out here, y’see, and have decided that illegal immigration is not an issue, so nonsense like this is only problem we have left to tackle.
There’s been such a ban in Los Angeles County too. This is the first STATE to do so. The idiots in Sacramento want to make sure it’s a pain in the ass for all of us from Crescent City to Calexico.
And I heard that paper grocery bags are going to cost 10 cents each. Sooooooo...which politician’s cousin is invested in manufacturing paper bags?
They’re banning the 30 gal black plastic bags?!!! THOSE are single use bags!
The little white grocery bags get multiple uses in my household. I store stuff in them also. After one year indoors, those bags have to be replaced because they fall apart.
The problem with the grocery bags is their color. If they were black, they wouldn’t be so visible and the libs wouldn’t see them.
The illegals use plastic bags for virtually all transportation purposes.
Can’t wash them here in commiefornica because we have no water either!
It isn’t JUST the plastic ban but the other rules, pages and pages of rules, about other bags. It is written by retarded adults.
Can’t do this, can’t do that....
Agreed. Those bags are very useful for all sorts of household tasks. My favorite is using them to dispose of used cat liter receptacles.
All the grocery stores around here have recycle bins for the plastic bags. If they get recycled, why is it an issue?
I pay for the paper.
That way, at least somebody is dealing with the fuel load.
The cop behind him knows it too.
Thank God there are no more pressing problems to worry about in California.
Me, too. I will order some from ULINE.
