We’ve now moved to a new stage of the racist reaction to the police killing of Michael Brown: the largely overt assertion that he deserved to be killed.
In the immediate aftermath of Brown, though unarmed, being shot “multiple times” after being stopped while walking in the middle of the street, the “ballad” being played in some quarters went like this: we don’t know all the facts so we shouldn’t rush to judgment.
But, once the Ferguson police released the video of Michael Brown purportedly snatching a box of cigars from the convenience store and intimidating its clerk, that advice was quickly replaced by that old standby: criminalizing the person who was killed.
Now, the slimers have simplified their defense of Brown’s killing. He was not an 18-year-old teenager, but a man-sized Black male 6’4” tall and well over 250 pounds was a threat to public safety. In other words: a “thug” – and therefore someone whom any White person should be able to execute with impunity.

Brown was a huge criminal punk who attacked a guy with a gun.

Right. He was an adult, deemed legally competent to make his own decisions. He chose poorly. If an 18 year old is only a teenager, then lets take away their right to vote because the ones who aren’t in uniform at age 18 vote stupidly.
It's not unreasonable to assume that the people shot by police are criminals.
It's not universal, sure, but let's not pretend that it's never true.
Almost nobody “deserves” to die. But if you jump facefirst into a plastic shredder, it isn’t going to end well.

Nobody had to say a word - just run the tapes and show us his criminal record. Perhaps he has “criminalized” himself.
The only thing missing is replacing the emphasized phrase with, "redneck crackah".

Should of course be able to punch out cops whenever he feels like it, hold up neighborhood stores, intimidate his neighbors, father children when and where he pleases, and collect innumerable benefits from the state.
What the author fails to realize is that Action= Reaction, even in this Darwinian scenario. Michael took his usual action and got what was for him apparently, a rather stronger opposite and equal reaction than he had anticipated.

And if a pro lineman size white cop had beat an average size black to death size wouldn’t matter, right?
Why even put out a BOLO call on the police radio ? Why don’t they just wait til the officers come back to the station and then update them on the latest crimes , just before they go off shift?
That way the criminals get another 12 hours to ditch any evidence and go into hiding while working on their alibi.
IF a thug was at your house vandalizing your yard , and you called the police, would you be satisfied if they told you they would come by in a few days, maybe interview a few witnesses and then try and find the culprit ?
6’5” and 225 solid pounds. When my ship was levied for Shore Patrol men, I always got partnered with a shipmate somewhat LARGER. Funny, but we patrolled Yokuska, Japan and never had a single problem with anyone. To be honest, I didn’t understand why.
