Sen. Mike Lee has called on Americans to join him in the effort to abolish the federal Common Core education standards
"As a U.S. Senator, Ive seen the federal government make a mess of everything it touches," the Utah Republican wrote in the email sent out Monday morning.
"And if they're allowed to stay, Common Core standards will be the ObamaCare of education," he wrote. "Common Core is the DC takeover of our school system. It will dumb down standards and cheapen the education our children receive."
All kids in America "deserve the best education in the world. The only way we can make that happen is to repeal Common Core across America," Lee wrote.

I don’t want American kids to have a government enforced, ‘common’ education.
I want them to have a diverse education with people who care about them in charge....local parents and leaders.
NOT only yeah, but ‘H’ yeah, and eliminate the Department of Education, and many other departments that shouldn’t exist as well.
My point: How about some solid ACTION against it rather than words of warning about it.
The Department of Education is absolutely, completely, totally, not one penny excepted, a waste of money.
Might as well dump those bucks on the fire.
Because the only way to stop it is at the state level.
Obama and Reid won’t let anything go forward, and this is too close to implementation to play Reid’s legislative games.
He can plead all he wants but with decades of unionized teachers and socialistic administrators in place, so what? Plus, just as we saw in an example posted earlier today, as soon as the feds threatened to pull funding, the local school board members who opposed CC caved with a whimper,
The level of actual education is INVERSELY proportional to the level of government involvement in education. Keep increasing government involvement and we will see twenty year olds who are less well equipped for life than they were at age six. We are approaching that status already.
Got a link? I found this
about the Lee County School Board in FL, but it doesn’t mention anything about feds threatening to remove fed funds.
My 12-year old grandson told his mother that common core is garbage!! His teachers think so too.
Even decades ago children were not taught to think in school. I learned to think by working on the farm and by reading everything I could get my hands on at an early age. My parents had no degrees, my father didn’t even go to high school, he was an eighth grade dropout. Of course in his day it was not called dropping out, it was called GOING TO WORK FULL TIME AT THIRTEEN. The two of them together were better equipped to deal with the problems of life than most couples now who both hold doctorates. If the grid went down they were far, far more able to cope than ninety some percent of today’s advanced degree holders. My mother could have taught school without any textbooks and her students would have been far better educated than most today.
Florida's Lee County votes to rescind decision to opt-out of Common Core standards testing Daily Reporter ^ | 9/2/14
Florida's Lee County school board has rescinded its vote to opt-out of the state's standardized testing. At a meeting Tuesday morning, the board voted 3-2 in favor of resuming testing....
[ I know of some countries with a common core education—Japan being one very good example. The only problem is that ends up over-emphasizing conformity and rote learning, something that even the educators in Japan realize in the long term is not a good idea. ]
True, also the fact that Japan is a very Homogenious country culturally and what works well or decently there may not work very well here....
[ I know of some countries with a common core education—Japan being one very good example. ]
Forgot to add that in Japan they have no problem holding back students that fail and when THEY set standards they tend to be hurdles where they “raise the bar” and not like the excersize of “lowerign the bar” that tends to go on here. Also there is the fact that the School unions have screwed up the education system here where in Japan I am not sure if they even have school unions...
Japan could certainly use a little more education stressing “deductive reasoning” vs. rote learning.
And we could use a little more of the Japanese Hard A*** “Learn or we fail you” mentality.
But what works well there don’t really work all that well here either...

Common Core sounds good as an “idea”, but when you realize who is runnign it and WHy they are pushing it it is nothign but an excuse to lower the bar to help out the incompetent teachers unions and bloated beer-o-cracies.
It is “Commie Core” because it is a tool of the communists in the education system...

Isn’t it funny how the Libs who whine about how we need more “Diversity” want us all under absolute conformity when it comes to education.....
Why not just abolish school boards and end the farce of local governance thanks the good ol’ ED.
After all, we can’t have Plebs running their own affairs. /sarc
When they say, “We want to teach them how to think.” they lie. They leave off a few words: ‘We want to teach them to think the approved way.’
Around here, you can generally turn a school board around in just one election.
