BBC ^ | 3 September 2014 | BBC

Posted on 09/03/2014 9:33:48 AM PDT by Krosan

France has said conditions are "not right" for delivery of the first of two Mistral assault navy ships to Russia. President Francois Hollande's office blamed Moscow's recent actions in Ukraine. France had until now resisted pressure to halt the delivery. Correspondents say the EU has struggled to tighten sanctions against Russia, restricting itself to travel bans and asset freezes against individuals.

Outstanding. That’s a real big improvement. Putin cannot wage war on a peaceful neighbor without paying some price.

I predict they’ll cave before too long. Unless Putin does something absolutely crazy like formally invade.

Does Ukraine have the money to buy it?

Why? France isn’t a slave to Russian gas.
What leverage does Puty have?

They have none. Putinist Russia is SOL. If Russia presses for damages the EU will ensure that Russia is indicted for unlawful warfare. That will void the contract. Putin’s hybrid war on Ukraine only works if the EU is willing to be willfully blind. So Putin will back off on the Mistral issue. He’ll only lose and he knows that.

France. They have the spine of a jellyfish, and won't eat the multi-billion dollar bill for the ships.

Multi-billion dollar contracts for French military hardware.

Just for the one they built, and they'll have to give that back. But there's another one about ready and two more that were supposed to be built in Russia with French parts and assistance. It is, as I said, a multi-billion dollar deal for France and they aren't going to just give it up over the Ukraine.

The Ukes don’t have any money and worse, they sold the two carriers that Russia was building, and abandoned, in Ukeland when the USSR broke up. The Ukes sold one of the carriers to China who have it running now, and one to India. I think the Indians are using theirs to smuggle elephants? By getting Krimea back Ivan might have a warm water shipyard again and be able to resume large ship construction . It no doubt hurt Pootin’s feelings that he had to pay the Frogs to build a couple of ships for him.

The site is full of Putinistas gleeful with Putin’s illegal war; they seem to think a real conservative has no ethics, morals, pity for the weak, or sense of charity. They confuse conservatism with teachings Machiavelli, Nietzsche, and Lenin. I would have never thought so many “conservatives” could value amoral, ruthless, military aggression as a sign of strength.
