Hit ISIS with our carbon-tax purse. Yeah, that’ll scare ‘em. Ping to Today show list.

Perhaps we could get them to elect Obama as their new caliph?

That should guarantee catastrophic results!

He’s only “disastrous” here because he is actively working to destroy this nation.

He’d put all that talent to work promoting a Caliphate.

A carbon tax to constrain the advance of ISIS? Is Thomas Friedman serious?

Was he EVER a serious scholar of ANYTHING?

Think how well a “carbon tax” would have worked in defeating Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, or Admiral Hideki Tojo in WW II.

And we are facing an enemy on a much broader front today.

so, basically, the same carbon tax Friedman wants to punish terrorists is the same carbon tax that Friedman wants to punish Americans....

ISIS doesn’t have significant oil revenues at the moment. However the Iraqi national government and the Kurds do. A carbon tax would hurt the Shiites and the Kurds, theoretically our allies (at the moment), not the Sunni ISIS fighters.

Americans never cease to amaze with the staggering extent of their stupidity.

I mean just WOW!

As far as I can see, modern civilization affords one the luxury of becoming just as dumb as sh!t, and not much else.

The Current Occupant now squatting in the White Hut is not sufficiently ruthless to competently run any kind of caliphate.

Even if a caliphate were declared in the territory once known as “the United States of America”, The Won almost certainly would be one of the first to be executed by beheading, as an apostate. His usefulness would have ended long before, when he had failed to take “the right side” in the internecine struggle for supremacy within Islam.

Friedman apparently thinks all we need to do to stop ISIS is have the UN pass some resolutions or taxes. Those showing up on ISIS to collect the taxes would be handed their heads.

Are you series? I think most historians agree that the main reason Tojo attacked the US was in response to the extremely successful American oil embargo. They needed oil from the Dutch East Indies and Malaya to support their war efforts, and needed the US Navy out of the picture to conquer them.

As for Hitler, his dependence on oil and the extreme vulnerability of his oil supplies directed and limited Nazi war policy on both fronts and throughout the war. Both the Nazis and the Japanese spent vast amounts on research and production of alternative fuels as the Allies severely limited their access to fuel. More than any other factor, the Allied dominance of the oil industry led to the destruction of the Axis.

This will work out eventually though, just not like he thinks.

The Chinese are fast becoming the biggest oil customer of the middle east as the US fracks like crazy and Europe just goes into the dumper economically.

You know, those lovable folks with mafia business practices and 1.5b expendable people? Will be fun to watch.

‘I didn't’t realize Friedman was so stupid.’

15 or 20 years ago, I thought he was funny and insightful.
Now he is neither.

Freidman - If the only thing you have is a hammer (global warming, etc.) then every problem looks like a nail (carbon tax).
