Perhaps you do not fully appreciate Canadian culture. At a nineteenth century debate, I believe involving two individuals who would both eventually become PM, though I forget the details, one of them delivered a line to the other to the effect “Excuse me, but there is only room for one drunk on this stage.”

Churchill did enjoy his drink but nothing suggests he was an alcoholic. Hitler on the other hand seems to have had an opiate addiction

What I don’t appreciate is making light of the alcholic’s plight

Actually, it looks like there is plenty to suggest that he was an alcoholic, at least by today’s standards, which is what Ford is being measured by.

Being Prime Minister wasn’t that bad of a plight in the 19th century.

Seriously, people throw the label around and may means a variety of different things.

Ford drunk is better than Tory or Chow sober.

Ford is no Churchill

Unfortunately, Churchill is not running for mayor of Toronto, so I will just have to hope that they settle for Ford.

Even with his drinking problem, I can’t think of a single North American politician who is in CHurchill’s class.

“Dreadful”
by Shel Silverstein

Someone ate the baby,
It’s rather sad to say.
Someone ate the baby
So she won’t be out to play.
We’ll never hear her whiny cry
Or have to feel if she is dry.
We’ll never hear her asking “Why?”
Someone ate the baby.

Someone ate the baby.
It’s absolutely clear
Someone ate the baby
‘Cause the baby isn’t here.
We’ll give away her toys and clothes.
We’ll never have to wipe her nose.
Dad says, “That’s the way it goes.”
Someone ate the baby.

Someone ate the baby.
What a frightful thing to eat!
Someone ate the baby
Though she wasn’t very sweet.
It was a heartless thing to do.
The policemen haven’t got a clue.
I simply can’t imagine who
Would go and (burp) eat the baby.

“Perhaps you do not fully appreciate Canadian culture.”

“Maple syrup”, and “Maple Leaf” Brand hotdogs are the only things I can think of right now. Well...perhaps a fresh baguette with some St. Andres triple-whipped cream cheese, and a cup of espresso with lots of cream & sugar, as well.

Big story over nothing. Williams had his surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. Williams, owns a $1.5 million condo on Siesta Key ,over looking Sarasota Bay.

It’s February 2010. Where would you like to spend a month recovering from heart surgery ? Newfoundland or at a multimillion-dollar seaside complex in Florida.

It’s February 2010.

So what?

Where would you like to spend a month recovering from heart surgery ? Newfoundland or at a multimillion-dollar seaside complex in Florida.

Having worked for one of he world's most famous hospitals for 20+ years (hint;it's in Boston) I know a thing or two about this subject. In my 20 years I've seen more deaths than you've had hot dinners (I worked in the ER).And one of the many things I learned was that when it comes to major surgery like heart surgery I'd spend a month (or more) recovering at the *South Pole* if that's where the best medical care was to be had.And BTW...being a powerful, and presumably rich, man he clearly had easy and immediate access (no waiting lists like for ordinary Canadians) to the best care Canada had to offer.Montreal...Toronto...Ottawa....Halifax...Vancouver...he could have gone anywhere for his surgery and recovery,But he came to the US of A.

Please understand... I like Canada.I like it a lot. It's a great country populated, largely,by great people. As far as I can tell you have a fine man serving as Prime Minister today (you wanna swap him for Osama Obama?).But I'll take our health care system (at least before Osama Obama got his hands on it) over yours...or Britain's..in a New York minute.

The question for Williams was not where he could get the best medical care . The question stands.

Where would you like to spend a month recovering from heart surgery ? Newfoundland or at a multimillion-dollar seaside complex in Florida.

For matters of comfort,if not actual safety,I'd recover very close to where the surgery took place...even if that surgery was done at South Pole General Hospital. And please don't tell me that you, when faced with the prospect of major heart surgery, wouldn't want it done at the best hospital available to you and that you wouldn't want done as soon as medically feasible. For me,the best care I have available to me today, given the insurance plan I have,is at any one of several of Boston's major hospitals.I'm enormously lucky in that regard.Mr Williams, too, was lucky in that regard thanks to his power and wealth. He could choose Columbia Presbyterian in Manhattan,Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota,Cedars-Sinai in LA as well as any hospital in Canada that he wised. And he chose another city with outstanding hospitals,Miami.

Tell me truthfully...if you were in a serious car accident in Moose Liver,Manitoba and could be safely transported (for free) to receive immediate care at one of these three hospitals, which one would you choose, and why?

Moose Liver Community Hospital

Toronto General

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester,Minnesota

And what would be you second choice?
