Portrait of a protester in Ferguson, Missouri (Think it's sympathetic to the looters?*)

FERGUSON, Missouri— Just days after 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed in a hail of police bullets, Joshua Williams found himself facing off with a phalanx of heavily-armed officers.

Williams joined the swarm of angry protesters who, in the wake of the teen’s death, took over the streets not far from the scene of the killing. They chanted and yelled and hoisted protest signs in the air. The police responded with snipers positioned on top of armored vehicles and a heavy deployment of officers, many with automatic rifles slung over their shoulders.

When someone from the crowd threw a rock or a bottle, the officers fired rubber bullets and tear gas into the crowd of overwhelmingly peaceful protesters.

During one emotionally raw moment, Williams, also 18, screamed at officers until his eyes were red and wet. Beads of sweat bubbled from his brow and his body grew tense. His voice strained under the shrill of pain swelling from his throat.

As he stepped closer and closer to the police line, a young pastor, Willis Johnson, wrapped Williams in a hug and pleaded with him to calm down. Williams broke down in the older man’s arms and a single tear tumbled down each of their cheeks.

“I just felt like they were trying to get over on us, trying to push us so that we’d react,” Williams told msnbc on a recent afternoon, weeks after that emotional day. “I was really upset. I saw children, little kids getting tear gassed and stuff. I just couldn’t take it.”(continued)

On most days Williams, a recent high school graduate, takes up position with other protesters across from the Ferguson police department. But he also attends various meetings pulled together by a growing network of activists and organizers. He said he hasn’t missed a single day of marching, protesting or meetings.

Hmmmm ....

Has this Williams character ever made anything, built anything, done anything productive or creative in his entire life (all 18 years of it)?

All of this ink spilt and not one question on which of the following common sense steps was so hard to obey:

  1. Don't rob convenience stores.
  2. Don't throw small Indian store clerks around like rag dolls when you do.
  3. Don't strut down the middle of the street after you'd done so.
  4. Don't punch a cop in the face and break his nose when he's asked you to move.
  5. Don't try to take his firearm to use against him.

Just wondering, which of the foregoing is so difficult?

Very few with P.C. single shot rifles.

As I recall there are some witness testimonies and photos on record in the Federal Register of events in the civil rights demonstrations in the South prior to 1964, that prove CBS actually organized demonstrations and paid some of the people involved. Then CBS would film it and show it on morning news the next day. If my memory serves me well, the one I was told about was in Memphis, but could have been Jackson.

The way things are in Washington these days, if CBC knew it existed may have been able to purge that information from the record - hopefully not.

On Tuesday night, during an at times raucous City Council meeting— the first since the shooting— Williams was among those who lined up to question, berate and at times belittle city leaders,

I see ...

So the 18 year old hoodrat, whose sole accomplishment in life is graduating from an urban public high school, feels that he has standing to hurl insults and invective at actual adults. I am reminded of the monkey cage at the zoo.

We might have to come together and show that we can work together and overthrow the system.

And there you have it ... He wants to "overthrow the system". What the hell does he mean by that? Does anybody know? Does he know? Overthrow exactly what, Joshua? Replace it with what? Any ideas?

You want to start a revolution, Jason, you may find the results not to your liking. Destruction is a lot easier than building. You'd know that if you had ever actually accomplished anything.

Perhaps he should go to the White House and scream incoherently at the occupant thereof.

It would still be useless and unproductive, but at least it would be directed at the actual offender.

No jobs to be had? I wonder ... has he even looked?

He needs to write up a more creative narrative, something like this:

“. . .they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside.”

Of course! Why, just a few weeks ago, all those young innocent protesting "teens" were telling us that part of the unrest of because there were no jobs.

What are you, racist?????

Yeah. So what?

Williams is still an unaccomplished, unintelligent, unproductive punk who's biting off more than he can chew.

If he gets the revolution he thinks he wants, he'll likely end up dying in the gutter, in a pool of his own blood, whining that it just isn't fair.

The System, which he thinks he wants to overthrow, is the only thing keeping him alive and he's too damn dumb, and too damn arrogant, and too filled with hate to see it.

Sad thing is, there are elements of The System that are counterproductive and need to be changed. And they're likely to be the things he wants more of.

WOW!!!! They forgot to add the "unarmed" keyword before the "18-year-old". Someone's going to get a reprimand at MSNBC.

But, the "hail of police bullets" part was a nice touch.

And yes, I know you were being sarcastic with the "racist" question.

I just don't care any more.
