The totalitarian impulse is all too familiar: since I represent Progress (and, of course, everyone who acts in the political realm fervently believes that he represents Progress) those who stand in my way are retrograde–evil, really–forces, that belong in the dustbin of history. Therefore, I might have to lock them up or kill them to ensure that Progress prevails.
Until recently, the totalitarian impulse has been blessedly absent from American politics. Now, however, the American left has caught the totalitarian bug that infected Lenin, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Castro, and so many others. A case in point: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the drug-addled son of the former Attorney General. Kennedy thinks it is a shame that he isn’t able to jail or execute the Koch brothers and other conservatives, like–for example–me:

That is one truly effed-up family!!! RFK Jr’s wife hanged herself in her barn back in May 2012, she was apparently an environmentalist and designed the family home to be eco-friendly, but apparently Jr’s slutting around got the better of her....
And liberals would never consider that they might be wrong about something, or just one of their ideas may be bad. While conservatives have to measure and defend every word they say in the media, liberals say whatever they want and never get called on it by the same media. The biggest threat to America are liberal-progressives. No group in America deserves to be marginalize more than them.
If one group or the other is not mature and professional enough to deal with that fact, they have no business steering public policy with their obvious insecurities at best, and likely ulterior motives at worst.
If folks don’t press those who have such outlandish ideas to make a case that stays consistent even for five minutes... I say maybe such folks are the worse fools. Just like who really is the bigger fool, Barack Obama or those who elected him?
