Just got my house propane tank filled today. cheapest price for propane in years: 1.82/gallon.

My supplier has not offered summer fill prices or contracts in 2 years.

Yep. We just had the tank filled at the other farm. Good prices this season.

If the propane suppliers/speculators really thought we were going to have a killer winter, wouldn’t propane prices be higher? My supplier won’t fill unless you are at 20%-30%. I called last week to switch the house tank from will call to keep full and was told there would be a wait, since I had 40% left. Less than a full week later, they show up to fill.
Factor in that my bill is fully paid up and I have a huge credit on my budget payment, since I usually pay even if I have a credit, just to keep some credit on the account, in case things go bad for us, economically.

Coincidentally, when I ordered firewood in June, I was told August 1st. When I called at the end of July to check, I was told September 1st because there was such demand. Then they called me right around August 1st and said they could deliver. Did that many folks cancel their orders or go elsewhere? Not much elsewhere to go, actually, since I buy from the wholesaler in my township. As you may know, firewood can only be delivered within the township where it is produced, due to Emerald Ash Beetle.

I’m betting on a *normal* winter. Which, of course, is cold enough for anyone.

Next week I’m having my old attic insulation taken out and having new, blown-in put in. You know you’re from Wisconsin if THAT excites you, LOL!

In the 25 years I’ve had my little farm, this past winter was the very first time I had a frozen pipe, and it wasn’t even a pipe with water in it - it was the drain from my front bathroom sink - which used to be a porch and has scant insulation under it.

That’s also being upgraded and I have a fan already propped up in case it’s needed.

Again, you know you’re from Wisconsin... :)

The polar vortex sucks cold air from space.
