My grandparent, parents and all our relatives came here in the early 20’s.
They were overjoyed to be here and wouldn't dream of calling themselves ANYTHING but American!!
That said... they spoke their own language at home, went to their own church, celebrated holidays their own way, etc. and America LET THEM... which is why they came here!!
They assimilated as fast as they could and retained the cultural identity among themselves in a knowing and quaint way, like all new Americans.
My parents were born here and thoroughly Americanized... but still went to their church, spoke their ‘other’ language at home and with the old folks... but WERE American!

Political Correctness was the invention of Vladimir Lenin in 1917. Lenin called it Cultural Marxism and it was renamed (to Political Correctness) in the 60s, because Marxism was not a term Westerners, and especially Americans, would swallow.
It’s purpose was to gradually make concepts that are unacceptable to Westerners acceptable; its goal is to lead people to accept a police state rule and total governmental control of their lives, thoughts, speech and actions, i.e., totalitarianism.
Thank you for that mini-refresher course. I used it. It’s difficult to always remember all that we need to know. But not impossible.

“PC”, as I understand it, is really about the application of political ‘corrections’ or having had political corrections applied to one’s self. “Political Correctness” is more of a philosophy that when it’s embodied, results in such corrections having been administered not for the benefit of a majority but for the pandering to and placating of a few. It’s like sending an innocent man to jail for appearances sake. And while he’s in there, he’ll be treated like any other guilty person. Any way you slice it, it’s time to rise up against “PC”.

I agree with the article. We have allowed the re-definition of words to be used against us.
It makes me think we should not even allow the ‘white lie’, which the author excuses; To do so opens the door, to allow dishonesty, as long as the conditions are ok, or it isn’t too big a lie.
Then the incrementalism begins.
Maybe we should say “my you are getting fat”, while painful, the honesty might be more healthy in the long term than any hurt feelings could cause. That would be hard for anyone to do, and to do while being conversational and pleasant, but perhaps the utter honesty is better?
