Full, Nothing Held Back, Almost Entire Story in The Title, Title: EXCLUSIVE - Navy SEAL who killed bin Laden revealed: Rob O'Neill named as SEAL Team Six hero who shot 9/11 mastermind three times in head - and has already inspired series of Hollywood films
The Navy SEAL who shot Osama bin Laden dead in the special force's most famous operation can be named today.
The Navy hero is set to give a full interview to Fox News later this month and waive his anonymity but MailOnline has established that he is Rob O'Neill, a highly-decorated veteran who quit after 16 years service.
In an exclusive interview Rob's father, Tom O'Neill, tells MailOnline, 'People are asking if we are worried that ISIS will come and get us because Rob is going public. I say I'll paint a big target on my front door and say come and get us.' Rob O'Neill, 38, is a former member of SEAL Team Six who has been portrayed on screen in Zero Dark Thirty, Captain Phillips and Lone Survivor. He is one of the most distinguished members ever of the elite force - but now faces being frozen out of its circles for revealing its most closely-held secrets. O'Neill was personally congratulated for killing bin Laden - in his account at close range with three shots to his forehead - during the SEAL raid on Abbottobad, in Pakistan, on 2 May 2011.
Questions have previously been raised over the exact narrative of how bin laden came to die, although the dispute centers on an alternative account which claims O'Neill shot him once, leaving him mortally-wounded and the terrorist was killed by two other SEALs with further shots to the chest rather than forehead.

“Silent warrior”? *sigh*
I wouldn’t either....but glad to know he’s a fellow ‘ginger’. ;)
Roger that. Guess the pentagoons will be swooping in now.
I thank this guy for his service, but I just don’t think it is a good idea to be revealing either himself or details of an operation.
Sure, he may be fine with the risks, but who knows what an errant revelation might give away about methods or what scrutiny it might bring on some of his former comrades?
Beyond that, I think it sets a dangerous precedent when the bond of secrecy is broken. It might cause hesitation amongst team members and the people who give the orders to send them in to do those missions.
I’m speaking strictly as a civilian, of course. I may be full of beans here. It just feels like this whole affair is a very bad idea that could have far-reaching consequences.
I agree this is a mistake for him to be revealed and do this interview.
I thank this guy for his service (especially killing OBL) and his heroism.
However, I question his good judgment in revealing his identity. He and his family are now targets, forever. That he, himself, was willing to risk his life to serve his country is his business - and to his credit and our benefit - but to risk family like that isn’t right or sensible.
Best of luck to him in all of his endeavors, and I hope and pray for his and his family’s long life and health.
Sad to say, but by revealing himself, he has painted a very large target on himself.
I don’t know if it is right or not to tell his tale.
I sure would like to know the whole story tho. I suspect he will not tell any real secrets.
I bet he enjoys the movie when it comes out. Should be a great comedy.
Can we also get an interview of the guy who dumped him into spongebob’s front porch?
There was a big kerfuffle as to whether or not OBL had actually been killed since no video or other proof was offered up to substantiate it.
Many here questioned the veracity of the claim.
I’m torn about this...glad that it’s being verified, but not at the expense of his identity nor any tactics, etc.
I for one am glad to know to this extent that osama was in fact taken out by Seal Team 6, as the only other “official” narrative to this has been øbola’s, and I wouldn’t believe him, or his compromised military as to what the time of day is.
To borrow from Britt Hume.... “My sense here is”:
He has seen his fellows die for their efforts, and he wants to amass an amount of money, for his survivors, before the Grim Reaper calls for him, as well.
Hope I am wrong, just my gut feeling.
Thanks.
The Pentagon has been begging for this problem. These films don't get made without cooperation from the military. Act of Valor used actual SEALs IIRC. The brass wants to play up the glory of special operators for recruiting purposes. Then they complain when their movie stars want a cut of the action.
I would rather hold him up as a hero than his CinC.
The SEALs are the new “buzz word.” If you listen to radio and TV ads you will hear the name used all over the place. It’s the “Green Beret” of the 21st century.
Way too commercialized.
He seemed to be bringing in a good income as a motivational speaker and trainer. Not sure, no I’m sure, the threat to home aka family isn’t worth the fame.... my opinion.
