Roman Catholic leaders have sent e-mails of warning to dozens of Washington and Maryland priests after protesters with bullhorns yelling anti-Catholic slogans appeared at several parishes and in a couple of cases stormed the inside of the church just before Mass, a bishop-administrator wrote in the e-mail.
A spokeswoman with the Archdiocese of Washington, which oversees 139 parishes in the District and suburban Maryland, said Wednesday that really small groups of protesters have appeared on the property of three or four parishes in the past couple of weeks near Mass time. They were shouting at parishioners going in and out and were handing out fundamentalist Christian literature, said Chieko Noguchi.
She would not identify the parishes or share the literature or what it said, saying it was unclear whether the protesters had created it or were using something they got elsewhere.
It was disconcerting, she said, that protesters would use a worship service as a time to protest.
Police were called Oct. 25 to at least one of the parishes, St. Pius X in Bowie, but the police chief there said no information was available about the group. Messages left with St. Pius staff were not immediately returned.
But the Rev. Mike Jones, pastor at St. Pius, described the incident in the parishs Nov. 2 bulletin.
We dont have to go to the other side of the world to experience religious extremists, wrote Jones, describing parishioners leaving Saturdays 5 p.m. Mass. We were assaulted by shouting and hatred being spewed by protesters standing at both our driveways. Armed with megaphones and brandishing signs, these christians ranted for more than 30 minutes about everything they view as evils of our Catholic faith. They attacked our dogmas, teachings, practices and leaders, including Pope Francis! Who are they? We dont yet know.

Try that when I’m at Mass guys.
I’m not saying it IS muslims but, I think it involves Radical Muslims, Hipster Satanists and Angry Atheists who are afraid of the power of God’s love.
The intruders will not be prosecuted for a hate crime, since this administration thinks it’s OK to harass Catholics.
This does not sound like any “fundie” I know. That kind of flash mob action is going to win anyone to a different style of worship? It sounds egotistical to me.
is also currently active. Let us pray for these 'activists' repentance, conversion, and salvation.
Yes, this sounds like a "false flag" operation to me too. Most likely culprit: some gay activists.
They were in town to protest at some poor dead soldiers' funeral and I guess they had nothing to do while they were waiting.
How about some Knights of Columbus kicking their Azzes of church property, you know guy is armor replete with shields, swords and maces. Perhaps Knights Templar would be more in order. Well one can wish, but it would be a sight to behold.
Fire hose. One (or more) per parish.
Just saying. :)
are they handing out Jack Chick comics?
Given that Catholics did the same thing to the people who held a black mass in Oklahoma then it’s only fair that Catholics should receive the same as they give.
The sword is ceremonial. The Glock is real.
False flag also came to my mind.
Real fundis have other major interests.
The coordination and DC location makes me think this is another effort to divide America via publicity stunts.
Shhh don’t give away all of our secrets.
Real Fundamentalists, whatever differences they might have with the Catholic Church, would not disrupt someone else’s worship service.
“Given that Catholics did the same thing to the people who held a black mass in Oklahoma then its only fair that Catholics should receive the same as they give”
Not really. A Black mass is a direct attack upon religion and exists for no other reason than to insult it using stolen, Consecrated Host.
