The “Civil War” was about several States trying to tell the central federal government to back off.
To claim that war was about slavery is like claiming the Revolutionary War was about tea.

Why those states, rather than some others?

Why at that time, rather than some other time?

The rebels were trying to do more than just tell the federal government to back off. Their leaders wanted to head up a whole 'nother country.

But why them? Why just exactly then? And in general: why? What was behind it all? Why were some states so opposed to federal policy just at that moment?
