He doesn’t know/keep up with everything that happens.
True.
"A group of Russian warships approaching Australia before the start of a Group of 20 summit meeting isnt likely a response to Prime Minister Tony Abbotts pledge to shirtfront Russian President Vladimir Putin over the downing of flight MH17, Abbott said."
"It takes weeks, if not months to deploy warships thousands of miles from your bases, Abbott said today on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. So, this Russian deployment into Pacific waters is something that has been a long, long time in preparation."
Russia is WAY out of line with this ugly show of intimidation.
“But I dont think the Russians worry too much about them.”
They better start.
Put the confrontation off for a couple of more years. By then we might have leadership willing to live up to our commitments to our allies.
Well, count Australia lucky, in that it hasn’t been undermined, disrespected, or outright betray by US foreign policy in the last 6 years. Of course, if the time comes where the choice is stand up to China, or Russia on Australia’s behalf, or leave them high and dry in the face of aggression, all that may change. I suspect that when you Aussies crack down hard on militant islamists, our countries relationships will change.
True, but Abbot was widely reported well before the summit meeting stating his plans, so it could have been from then.
At very most 4 wks before the summit. The russians never took it seriously though. But that expression became somewhat popular, David Cameron used it a couple of time just before the summit as a joke & tongue in cheek. Rest is history :)
