Are you anywhere near that volcano that's erupting?

I had the day off today. I did some banking, food shopping, FReeping, and watched an old movie. It was “Soylent Green” and i always cry with Charlton Heston during the Edward G Robinson Death Scene.

The two actors were dear friends, and Edward G was really dying at the time he made the movie. Charlton’s tears were real.

Along with the Beethoven and Grieg, and the implications for our society, how could anyone have a dry eye?

Anyway...I also got a little nap in.

What...you want me to start CRYING again?

:-)

Thanks for posting that. Others will understand where i am coming from if they click on it. It is my humble opinion that it is one of the most touching and tender scenes in all of cinema...and it is smack dab in the middle of a very distopic and harsh movie.

Eddie handled it just right. It was a fine capstone to a great career.

HEAR MY PRAYER,
O GOD, INCLINE THINE EAR!

"Hear My Prayer / O For The Wings Of A Dove"
Felix Mendelssohn
(Click)

"Hear my prayer, O God, incline Thine ear!
Thyself from my petition do not hide.
Take heed to me! Hear how in prayer I mourn to Thee,
Without Thee all is dark, I have no guide.
The enemy shouteth, The godless come fast!
Iniquity, hatred, upon me they cast!
The wicked oppress me, Ah where shall I fly?
Perplexed and bewildered, O God, hear my cry!
My heart is sorely pained, within my breast,
my soul with deathly terror is oppressed,
trembling and fearfulness upon me fall,
with horror overwhelmed, Lord, hear me call,
O for the wings, for the wings of a dove!
Far away, far away would I rove!
In the wilderness build me a nest,
and remain there for ever at rest."

Please let me know by Freepmail if you would like to be
admitted to or released from my music ping list.

A day off? Time to recharge...and you got a lot of things done.

And then a good movie. A good day.

Four pieces:

First movement of Tchaikovsky Six;
First movement of Beethoven Six;
Grieg: "Morning";
Grieg: "The Death of Ase", both of which are from "Peer Gynt".

I better get the full 20 Minutes!

I LOVE the entire character of Sol Roth. All through the movie he is just such a wonderful person. The way he relishes the little bit of nice food that Thorne brings home, the walls stuffed with books, the sweet smile throughout, the incredible integrity and dignity in the face of total degradation from his former position, and his ethical horror over his discovery about Soylent Green.

Just wonderful.

I have always loved “the death of Ase”. I rearranged it for easy piano, and tried to teach it to some of my students but they said it was too sad to play!
