Obama in Winter
New York Times ^ | November 17, 2014 | by David Brooks

They say failure can be a good teacher, but, so far, the Obama administration is opting out of the course. The post-midterm period has been one of the most bizarre of the Obama presidency.

I’m not sure why the Obama administration has been behaving so strangely since the midterms. Maybe various people in the White House are angry in defeat and want to show that they can be as obstructionist as anyone. Maybe, in moments of stress, they are only really sensitive to criticism from the left flank. Maybe it’s Gruberism: the belief that everybody else is slightly dumber and less well-motivated than oneself and, therefore, politics is more about manipulation than conversation.

Whatever it is, it’s been a long journey from the Iowa caucuses in early 2008 to the pre-emptive obstruction of today. I wonder if, post-presidency, Mr. Obama will look back and regret that he got sucked into the very emotional maelstrom he set out to destroy.

“I sympathize with what Obama is trying to do substantively”

David Brooks is a dunce and the above statement proves it substantively.

For reals, player? You didn't find it strange that a guy who had no real world experience in his 40+ plus years on this planet; a guy who spent a grand total of 155 days as a US Senator; a guy who voted "present" more than 50% of the time AS a US Senator; a guy who spent millions of dollars having his college records sealed; a guy whom almost nobody remembers meeting at any of the several Universities he attended; a guy who was brought up mostly (if not entirely) by America-hating Communists wanted to be President of the United States of America?

Brooks’ words read like the lament of a disappointed lover... someone who worships the ground Obama walks on, but feels the object of his desire fell short of expectations.

That whole Obama cult sure exposed the weirdness in a lot of people... another one was the former conservative Michael Smerconish.

That is an assumption that might prove invalid

I thought that journalists weren't supposed to be so gullible. If, for some weird reason, they ever believed his line of bull in 2008, how they can not now see it for what it was. Freepers, Tea Partiers, and other conservatives (Neanderthals that they were) saw through this jackwagon in the very first nanosecond.

It is not Brook’s reaction that should worry people but the replies to the article which are chalked full of lies and Dem talking points. How can people be so uneducated? They’re clueless.

Clearly a International Socialist position.

But does Obama still have a perfect crease in his “pant”. [That was the word the very strange Mr. Brooks used, not ‘pants’.]

David Brooks IS a complete DUNCE. Anyone who judges someone by their pants crease (or thrills up their leg) just is not to be be taken seriously.

I was reading the comments before I made mine, and you have said exactly what I was thinking. The comments only go to show what the readership of the NYT is and that little of what the rest of the country thinks appears there.

I agree, I read some of those comments frightening, how so very sheltered these readers are. Constantly referring to the Koch brothers when it is Buffet and his rail lines and trucking investments that are keeping him from approving this "jobs" bill.

Don't these NYtimes readers ever read about the multiple train and truck explosions happening carrying crude oil across our nation?

Pick any leftist rag and the comments are going to all look alike. The only people commenting are those without visible means of support with time on their hands and clueless is their game.

Brooks and Gergen, the token RINOs trotted out to represent the conservatives by the corporate left-wing media. Hard core globalists that are disappointed in dear leaders performance in carrying out their pet agendas.

Poor Bwooksie, no more Mr. Excitement in the White Hut.

That's okay, Bwooksie will find other power junkies to get excited about.
