Really? Only for political naifs. Politically, Barack 0bama is finished, and the NYT knows it. They are going to completely trash Zero over the next two years, burnishing their "objectivity" credentials (which costs them nothing at this point) over that period while they manufacture separation between 0bama and his people, vis a vis the Cintons and their people.
The secondary objective is to rehabilitate the Democrat Party with white working class voters, and the primary objective is to get Hillary into the White House.
The easiest way to do that is to call out the obvious race baiters, with whom 0bama is easily identified, and of whom everyone is sick to death.
