Republican leaders hope to contain outrage in the ranks over Obama immigration moves
Washington Post ^ | November 20, 2014 | Robert Costa

Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) winced as he listened to comments from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) in reaction to President Obama’s plans to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation.

“Unfortunate, unfair, unnecessary, unwise,” Graham said.

Earlier Wednesday, Bachmann, a retiring tea-party firebrand, had declared that those immigrants covered by the policies that the president would announce Thursday would become “illiterate” voters.

For Republicans the roiling debate over the president’s decision is not only a fight with the White House, but a test of whether they can contain some of the unhelpful passions among their swelling majorities in both chambers. The task is keeping on-message and away from the controversial and sometimes offensive comments that have traditionally hindered attempts to bolster support for the party among Hispanics.

GOPe is going to bend over and let Obama do his business. Of course the Amnesty gang in the GOP wants to do nothing.

...unhelpful passions ...

Opinions vary.

Frankly, I think they are VERY helpful, depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

Why do I get the feeling Sarah Palin is about to become the enemy of the republican majority?

That’s why anyone saying impeachment would work is living a fantasy that these people will uphold and follow the law.

There is no way Obama is going to be impeached if Congress, and the people are going to let him walk up on that stage tomorrow and say the words, allowing a disease ridden criminal invasion force to legally stay here. With no fear of deportation. Only the warm coddling Fed gov to take more of our money and give it to the enemy.

Eggszactly and I have moved registration over to No party affiliation and unless I see some GOP with spines and cajones I won’t vote for Republican either... tired of walking down same old road and falling in same potholes...If America can’t do better than its current leadership America will go the way of many nations before them. They have already walked away from the Judeo Christian heritage and there are consequences

Fortunately Boehner has to keep up a fight until after the January Speaker election.

Amnesty will lead to the defeat of many Republican Representatives just like the ‘war on coal’ defeated so many Dem Representatives.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Sen. Lindsey O. Graham the Republican firebrand who was calling for Obama’s impeachment right before he was in a tough Primary election challenge?

Truly so. The E Pubs are a greater enemy of the republic than are the Marxist dems. Both are anathema to government by the people.

I wonder how the author reconciles those “unhelpful passions” with the “swelling majorities”?
