No. I said he was nominally a Republican - that was his party registration but there was no philosophical component to his voter registration status. I’m just pointing out that to believe he was somehow a conservative Republican, or a liberal Republican, is absurd.

Yes, a lot of Republicans are clinging helplessly to the MLK life raft.

It’s really immature. I expect conservatives to be more sober than that.

It’s like the folks that say if JFK were alive he’d be a Republican.

He’d be the worst, most nauseating white liberal out there, mugging for the camera, injecting himself and his opinion to an adoring white liberal mefia, etc. He’d be worse than Bill Clinton.

...the police are not there to help you. The courts all the way up to the Supreme Court have ruled that the police are under no legal or constitutional obligation to actually protect any individual citizen. They don't have to step in to protect your business. They don't have to put themselves in harm's way to keep you from getting killed. Despite the unfortunate mythology that decades of police shows on the TV has built, the "blue line" does not extend to you, citizen.
And we saw this on display in Ferguson. The city police, as well as the various authorities at the county and state level, largely stood aside while buildings burned and mobs ran wild.

The National Guard was called up and held in reserve just outside the riot area, not allowed to deploy into the area until after the riots were over.

I recall the Columbine massacre, where SWAT-equipped deputies waited outside the school for three hours after the last shots were fired before entering the building.
