Cubans in Miami’s Little Havana reacted with anger and dismay to President Barack Obama’s dramatic bid Wednesday to end a half-century Cold War with the communist-ruled island.

“It is a betrayal. The talks are only going to benefit Cuba,” said Carlos Munoz Fontanil in Calle Ocho, the heart of an exile community that has long pined for the fall of the Castro regime in Havana. […]

An equally outraged Felix Tirse, who arrived from Cuba 53 years ago, said Obama’s announcement showed “a lack of respect.”

“He is more communist than others,” he said. …

Not the same bunch, I don’t think. There are Cubans and then there are Cubans. I know of one I used to know in el República Popular de Nueva Jersey who would be in the crowd depicted in that graphic.

It seems that betraying the people is the favorite bipartisan activity of Washington these days, doesn’t it?

Cubans for Zero, it’s like Jews for Hitler. Communist-Totalitarianism taught these twits nothing.

Here’s a thought. Normalize relations and lets send home all of those Cuban’s that came here over the last 50 years. Let them remake Cuba instead of continuing to turn Florida into a 3rd world cesspool.

Of the Cubans I have known, they have been very much to the right of the political spectrum. Those people in that picture above are simply brainless liberal idiots, not Cubans.

There are more illegals than Cubans in FL now, by design. They don’t matter to Dems anymore

That picture makes me sick to my stomach.

My wife is Cuban—she & her family loathe “the one”. That exiled Cuban fools support a man who’s principles are exactly the same as Fidel’s is very telling.

I’m hispanic and most hispanics are morons IMO.

Not the younger generations nor the new “immigrant waves”.
They are die-hard leftists. I spend plenty of time every year in S Florida and it’s becoming more & more clear that Cubans have forgotten where they come from....kind of like Jews in a very scary way.

Sickens me too. I am gratified that Rubio, who has credibility on this issue, is speaking out on this outrage. Obama is doing whatever he pleases with no pushback whatsoever, it is galling.

Funny you mention that. I think it’s already a cesspool, there are even complaints among Cubans that Argentine’s are running them out of town, some parts of A1A along the strip look like little Buenos Aires.

I'm not of Cuban heritage so I could be wrong on this but I think it's telling that all those pictured appear to be young enough to be the next generation of the exiles. I say this because my Grandparents weren't interested in talking about ‘the old Country’ once they came here and settled. They chose to focus on America and all of its opportunities. Everything I know about what was going on there I learned from books and out of my own curiosity. Perhaps they're victims of American public schools.

Cubans are a curious lot. They love their country. You’ll be hard pressed to find a 4th generation Cuban or higher. The old timers remember the old country and long for the days when they could live there again in peace.

The younger ones who haven’t set foot on their country, need a sense of belonging. Those who adapt & blend to American culture (there’s a few) couldn’t give a rip about Cuba for the most part (and they are conservative), they love America. The rest, are like pseudo-Puerto Ricans, and just have to stick out from the crowd & proclaim who they are. They have a weird cultural identity issue.

I can see that. I had a neighbor before I moved who was Cuban and born in America. He really didn’t have an interest in Cuba but when his Mother came to live with him she often talked about Cuba and Castro. Her wounds were not healed while her son had none. As much as she excoriated Castro, she regaled us with stories of pre-Castro Cuba with much pride. I absolutely agree that given the chance to return to the Country of her memories, she would have left a powerful draft.

“He is more communist than others,” he said.

There is one man who gets it. Obama is a communist. The political and economic structure of Islam is communism. Obama is a Muslim. Muslims and communists hate America.

My mother-in-law would go back in a heartbeat, as would most old-timers.

God heals all wounds eventually. There’s a specially place for Castro and his minions who did what they did in the 50’s.

I believe Obama made a real mistake in this—looks and sounds good but I foresee problems.
