Maher is at least being consistent. Here at FR, we have often wondered how on earth liberals can support a religion that crushes free speech, enslaves women, allows for the molestation of minors, and murders gays. I know I've been baffled for a long time about this tendency.

As despicable as he can be, three cheers for Maher, on this point especially. Everything liberals or progressives say they are against they can find fully realized in most of the Muslim world, yet those same liberals or progressives refuse to criticize Islam. The best they can do is offer mealy-mouthed, sophomoric moral equivalence and argue that "all religions have extremists, and all extremists are bad."
