Rhetorically, you're at the bottom of a deep hole, with a shovel. And you're still digging. Straight down.

Maryland is a deeply, thoroughly, leftist State. Its gun laws have gone from tolerable to atrocious at a time when most States gun laws have improved, often dramatically. There's an organization called Maryland Shall Issue ... I applaud their efforts, but even they admit that they have a long way to go and the State is moving in the wrong direction.

I'm not calling you stupid or a liberal. I'm definitely calling the idiot in this article, who tackled an armed citizen, stupid. He "deserved" to get his head blown off; he committed assault and battery. There's just no way around that. I'm suggesting that you should reconsider your apparent high opinion of this guy. What he did may make sense to someone who has spent his whole life in an anti-gun cesspool like Maryland; it's dangerous stupidity in a place like Florida.

is it worse to be carrying a gun, or to be a wannabe cop

Obviously carrying a gun is a protected right,
and trying to be a cop is using physical force without authority.

Against his will AND without his permission?

I think all states should eliminate the separate designations of open or concealed carry.

...And remove the stupid "permits" that go along with it.

If I was the journalist, I would have written: “Once inside the store, Foster approached Daniels from behind, placed him in chokehold and took him down against his will, without permission, counter to his wishes, in violation of his desire, in direct abrogation of his fondest thoughts, and in opposition to his favorite things. Plus, he didn’t want it. Or like it. He was upset and against the idea.”

What if it were your brother doing the assault in such a case? Oh I know, with all the bravado around here, of course you’d throw away the key.

If I had a brother, I would still call him an impulsive moron. Foster is lucky that he's only facing battery and assault charges rather than manslaughter or murder.

Just exactly what did the CC do that caused this freakin’ attacking idiot to think that he was.....”stopping a criminal” as you say? C’mon....what actions did he exhibit that constitutes ‘criminal like actions’ that warranted him getting that sucker attack, hmmm? Not a damn thing that is what. You got blasted pretty good on this thread by everyone and you deserved it.

Why can we not have a calm rational discussion about this? Without the hostile talk? Give a conservative a benefit of a doubt? Guess not. 0s and 1s, only.

I “got blasted”, alright, even when trying to be rational and non-insulting. Yet I’m the only one taking the whole barrage, notice. Give me some points for guts, too. It’s easy when everyone is on your side, isn’t it? But at least some people understood a bit what I was getting at, and that I can see giving this man some punishment - I just don’t think he needs to be in the gulag.

No specific suspicious activity that we know of. Just worried about seeing his firearm. Of course, at least he did not bring it out, which would have been more suspicious than simply having it.

I don't like that most people simply attacked you rather than engaging in debate. Whether someone is right or wrong doesn't mean one should be attacked.

With that said, I do disagree with your point that the guy should be let go. Reason being that what he did was criminal. He assaulted the other guy (and if you watch the video below it was a proper tackle), and serious injury or worse could have happened. While the attacker (and that is what he is in the eyes of the law) may have meant well, he still rushed to do something without proper cause/justification. If he was concerned he should have called the cops and informed Walmart security. If the victim (how the law sees the elderly black man who was attacked) had been a threat and was attacking the store, then the attacker would have been a hero. Unfortunately that was not the case, and the only positives here are that the victim was not more seriously injured and that the attacker did not have a firearm (he'd probably have used it and would not be facing a far more serious charge).

In CCW classes a lot of time is spent teaching the circumstances that legally enable someone to engage a threat (eg clear danger, life and property at risk, inability to take yourself from the situation, etc). The attack did not meet any of these.

Anyway, please see the video below. You had asked some FReeper if he'd still feel the same if the attacker was his brother. My question is how you would feel if the victim was your husband and what is shown in that video happened to him.

I hope Wal-Mart also apologized to the victim. Their employees disarmed him and detained him. Once they saw his permit, they should have handed his pistol back to him and let him decide if he wanted to wait for the police.

Interestingly enough, the “carrier” was a 62-year old black grandfather. Over at DKos, the commentators all think that 2A supporters would excuse the attack because the “carrier” was black. Yet I am sure not one commenter here would change the opinions expressed here based on that fact!
