WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-controlled Senate on Thursday approved a bipartisan bill to construct the Keystone XL oil pipeline, defying a presidential veto threat and setting up the first of many battles with the White House over energy and the environment.

The 62-36 vote advanced a top priority of the newly empowered GOP, and marked the first time the Senate passed a bill authorizing the pipeline, despite numerous attempts to force President Barack Obama's hand on the issue. Nine Democrats joined with 53 Republicans to back the measure.

Good deal, but the problem is ... I don’t believe they will be able to override a veto from Obama.

It will make for good campaign rhetoric in 2016, though.

The king will veto the bill, then the Republicans will wring their hands and cry. Boehner is already practicing his weep.

It takes 67 votes to override his veto ... and they don’t have that many votes!

Trouble is, the Republicans probably won't use it. When Mitt ran last time, he had plenty of ammunition to use against Obama. He didn't use it.

The Republicans need to try to override any veto and have people on record with their vote.

Obama needs to be known as the President of NO. That can be his legacy.

And where are the additional Democrats going to come from, outside of the Democrats that they just got (now) to vote with the Republicans?

They may not get enough votes to override. But at least everyone will be of record.

Good, make Zero veto so much he gets writers cramp. Also, ruin as many of his golf outings as possible.
