Vaccine Critics Turn Defensive Over Measles

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Their children have been sent home from school. Their families are barred from birthday parties and neighborhood play dates. Online, people call them negligent and criminal. And as officials in 14 states grapple to contain a spreading measles outbreak that began near here at Disneyland, the parents at the heart of America’s anti-vaccine movement are being blamed for incubating an otherwise preventable public-health crisis.

Measles anxiety rippled thousands of miles beyond its center on Friday as officials scrambled to try to contain a wider spread of the highly contagious disease — which America declared vanquished 15 years ago, before a statistically significant number of parents started refusing to vaccinate their children. In recent days, new measles cases popped up in Nebraska and Minnesota, New York and Marin County in California. Officials around the country reported rising numbers of patients who were seeking shots, as well as some pediatricians who were accepting non-vaccinated families but were debating changing their policies. The White House urged parents to listen to the science that supports inoculations...

“To the best of my knowledge I do not know anyone who has been harmed by any vaccinations.”

Yeah, no one’s ever been injured by vaccines. That’s why the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act was enacted and why there’s a National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

None of you people have any idea you’ve been brainwashed. The truth is out there.

Of course, if your kids are vaccinated, you have no worries...

Unless you have a child that cannot be vaccinated (those on or just finished chemo for example) or your child is under 12 months of age (babies cannot get the vaccine).

The only protection those kids have is the "herd immunity" built up around them which fails when there are otherwise healthy un-vaccinated kids included.

If he didn’t permit evil, virtue would have no meaning. Our life here is a spiritual one, not a physical one. (just rephrasing what you said a bit).

During the 1950s an annual average of greater than 500,000 cases of measles and nearly 500 deaths due to measles were reported in the United States ...

Your results may vary.

What is it about people that defend vaccines and this need to confuse the issue?

Maybe the fact that before a child shows enough symptoms to be isolated at home they may be contagious and infect countless others through their interactions. So actually it's not only your children your making the decision for, now is it. So who is really confusing the issue?

” Unless you have a child that cannot be vaccinated (those on or just finished chemo for example) or your child is under 12 months of age (babies cannot get the vaccine).”

If you have an immune-compromised child, you’d better not expose it to disease and with a younger child, don’t expose it to older kids.

“The only protection those kids have is the “herd immunity” built up around them which fails when there are otherwise healthy un-vaccinated kids included. “”

You left out their parent’s care and good choices to protect the kids.

“5 deaths from measles in 15 years is certainly an epidemic to be afraid of...”

At least those 5 dead kids also got “forever immunity”. We haven’t gotten a full body count for this outbreak, but I’m sure the parents of the latest crop of inevitable dead kids were as smug about preventable childhood disease as you.

Vaccines....if you don’t get it, you don’t get it.

Perhaps I was 8 years old when taken to a local library for my Salk “vaccine”, a sugar cube. I was 100% relieved when I swallowed the last of the series. Back then, one saw polio victims in everyday life. The stories of iron lungs, of those who died of diphtheria, whooping cough, or those ravaged by small pox, were everyday stories. Everyone knew someone who lost a loved one. Rheumatic fever, though rare, required quarrantine of the family.
The other childhood illness that everyone got such as the 2 measles, chicken pox and mumps were treated with healthy fear—meaning a child stayed home and rested! And we were relieved to survive without suffering the rare complications which we knew were possible.
Today, I observe no healthy fear of colds and flu. It used to be unthinkable in the years before the miracle drugs called antibiotics for men and women, let alone children to go out in public coughing and sneezing as they do now.
I suspect that there is a much bigger issue here than to vaccinate.

That’s your answer?
It’s ok that more than 100 kids have died post vaccination -
but the 5 that died from the measles is the epidemic we need to “get”?

I do not believe in young children getting vaccines.. God designed a permanent immunity ..and I think that is the way mans immune system was designed..

Yup...God certainly willed that THOUSANDS, if not millions of people would be paralyzed or die of Polio...and darn that Jonas salk guy, he ruined God's plan for self immunization and saved countless lives....we certainly have different views of how God works...I say He enables mankind to develop things like vaccines, blood transfusions, clean water, anti-hypertension drugs, penicillan, Aspirin....but then, who needs all that junk, just rely on God and forget the knowledge that He has granted to mankind...PATHETIC.

Wow, are you an unbelievable idiot? There are a few vaccines that I would not bother to get, even for my children (Think the Flu vaccine, HPV vaccine and the Chicken Pox vaccine, but to keep your children from being immunized against Polio, Measles, Smallpox, etc, and I mean from PROVEN effective vaccines, is selfish and ignorant, no matter what lame ass excuse you put forth.

If you live in isolation, fine by you, but in a crowded society, you have some obligations that you should abide by, and no excuse is good enough to put so many others at risk due to your personal beliefs, IMO. That is a fundamental guideline of civilization, like it or not, believe it or not.

To belittle a person who disagrees with you as being a sodomite is asinine, arrogant, and puerile, IMO.

No, you’re an asshole, and to hide behind your service in a lame attempt to justify your beliefs is moronic, IMO.

I served for four years in the RA, and that does not make my opinion any more valuable nor righteous than any other.

It’s statistics like yours - deposited from your posterior orifice with such confidence - that convince other gullible people not to vaccinate their kids. Stop it. Do what you want with your kids. Nobody says it should be otherwise. You might be called stupid, because you are, but what do you care?

You started the ad hominem attack. I simply played your game because you offered no reasoned discourse only name calling. A true RFEngineer would use logic...

Alarming that anyone in our community who is a critical thinker and makes an effort to be well informed would dismiss ongoing evidence that current vaccination regiment is reckless.
Dozens of vaccine shots inundating a newborn thru two year old’s immunological system..
Sheer insanity.
Of course everyone here recalls:
Gov’t exempts Big Pharma from Vaccination liability.
Vaccination in many instances is derived from faulty logic, incorrectly interpretating all disease data.
Big Pharma allowed SV40 primate cancer virus in Polio vacs
Mercury, aluminum in many vaccines
Deadly HPV vaccination reactions
Hep B for newborns?

I have read your arguments throughout this thread and all I see are sweeping generalities, hyperbole, and ad hominem attacks bereft of actual data. Who is pathetic?

I thank you for your Service, however, I obviously disagree with you on this one issue.

As I stated in my Post, my close Childhood Friend could just as easily been confined to a Wheelchair or an Iron Lung because of his exposure to Polio. He was fortunate to only be left with an obvious Limp.

If only the Vaccine had been available before his exposure to Polio. That is what I am basing MY OPINION on.

Again, I have no animus toward your stand on this issue. I was just stating my belief based on my Life experience.
