"The problem then was much smaller than it is now and not the big deal in the minds of the citizens>"

The problem is that Obama thinks that still is the case today. You can't hold a principled position and say it was OK then, but not OK now.

Wisconsin is not bearing the brunt of the illegal invasion. The average Wisconsinite is way more liberal than say a more Southern citizenry. A moderate seems like a wild a conservative in Wisconsin. That same moderate is a liberal in the South.

Walker is a NON UNION guy, thus the HB1 visas, HB1 visa folks CAN’T VOTE!!!!! Would you prefer our government continue to be run by the unions!!!!!!! All I want at this point is a CLOSED BORDER and I mean CLOSED!!!!!! What to do with the ones that are here I don’t know after the border is DAMN SECURE we can discuss that situation!!!!!!

Yes. It's something I try to keep in mind when discussing Constitutional conservatism here on FR. But I have lapses and posts can get misconstrued both ways.

H-1b is a threat to my personal survival so I take the issue seriously.

Not one candidate will ever meet the criteria that would make most freepers happy. I’d bet that today even Reagan would be called a RINO because of some slight departure from perfect conservatism.

No, but certain issues are deal-breakers. Any one who favors open borders is not fit to be president, IMO. If we don't have secure borders, we don't have a country.

So okay, Reagan was a criminal and should never have been elected. Suit you?

Ted Cruz, Jeff Sessions and only a handful of others vote the way they campaign. Someone who's done that would be the most trustworthy nominee.

That is what us "purists" demand. The folks shrilling about "perfection" on this thread do not understand that an (R) is not a qualification will never get it.

Maybe, or not. We the people just want our representatives and other elected officials to be honest regarding their statements that they are "true conservatives" and to remain steadfast in what they promise us, rather than be Beltwayized shortly after arriving in DC. That is not happening often enough to make the difference...yet.

And Reagan did not violate the Constitution. He signed a law passed by Congress. The Sultan proclaimed his Amnesty by Fiat which is a process not prescribed in the Constitution.

I’m a recently converted conservative (it’s a long, sad story) and borderline libertarian at this point.

What would you consider to be “perfect conservatism?” Granted, I haven’t read a great deal on conservative ideology which is why I ask.

FYI, this isn’t a trick question.

The state has the authority to protect anyone who's being starved to death or otherwise abused. People are put in protective custody all the time.

Maybe Jeb was just too afraid or too weak willed to take strong action. Yeah, that's real good presidential material. (sarcasm)

At this point IMO they are the same thing.

Our culture is on the precipice of being annihilated by design of this invasion. “Legal” or illegal immigration breeds the same result.

You got that right, unfortunately. Not only do we have to go against leftists in academia and the news media, we are faced with a rather large percentage of conservative folks who will never vote again, according to their need for some sort of false god who is perfect.

It is so disheartening to read the comments on these freeper boards.

As for me, I remember Barry Goldwater’s speech at the 1960 convention. He asked the conservatives to grow up. He was my first presidential vote in 1964!
