DENVER Nobody in the Colorado marijuana industry is panicking, but those involved are sweating a little over the hard line taken by Loretta Lynch, President Obamas pick to be the next attorney general, on legalization during this weeks Senate confirmation hearing.
Quite a few of my members were expressing concern and nervousness, said Michael Elliott, executive director of the Colorado Marijuana Industry Group. But Im not sure we could have expected much more than we just heard. Even the president, who came out saying that marijuana is no more dangerous as alcohol, is also on the record as being against legalization.
States that have legalized or are considering legalizing recreational marijuana use butted heads continually with Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who refused to relax stricter federal laws against pot use. Judging from this weeks performance, the fight wont end when Mr. Holder leaves.
A federal prosecutor in New York, Ms. Lynch told the Senate Committee on the Judiciary she disagreed with the presidents no-big-deal take on pot, saying, I certainly dont hold that view and dont agree with that view of marijuana as a substance.
I think the president was speaking from his personal experience and personal opinion, neither of which Im able to share, Ms. Lynch said. But I can tell you that not only do I not support the legalization of marijuana, it is not the position of the Department of Justice currently to support the legalization. Nor would it be the position should I become confirmed as attorney general.
Her stance buoyed legalization foes such as Kevin Sabet, president of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, who said in a statement, We are breathing a sigh of relief.

Loretta Lynch Nanny State PING!
Lynch, Federal Dick, same as the H0lder, Federal dick....
I do care she is an open-borders advocate like the rest of Team Obama.
Loretta Lynch can’ have legalized pot moving in the turf of the drug dealing gangs whose interests she is protecting.
It all comes down to who profits. Legalization would take money away from the cartels and their partners in drug enforcement. Hence, it will not happen. At least voluntarily. Expect any new AG to stay on the same course.
Its a big, profitable uniparty. And we aren’t in it.
Sounds like deja vu all over again:
“The Department of Justice issued a guidance in 2013 that essentially allows states to proceed with adult marijuana use and sales while warning that prosecutors would still enforce eight priorities, including keeping marijuana away from children and avoiding pot diversion to other states.
“Tom Angell, who heads Marijuana Majority, said in an email that Ms. Lynch also appeared to indicate that she would follow the Justice Department guidance.”
A hardass against something a state has deemed legal. And an apologist for aliens who break federal law.
Nothing like having it both ways. She's a natural for this administration.
American citizens should be the one panicking. She doesn’t give a rats ass about Americans. She’s all melanin all the time second only to illegals of color. She is another affirmative action bully who has a grudge against the nation. Eric holder in a pant suit.
Never thought of it that way - but you're right, drug enforcement opposes the cartels in much the same way the Washington Generals oppose the Harlem Globetrotters.
“Even the president, who came out saying that marijuana is no more dangerous than is alcohol...”
Geeze, he says a lot of stupid chit, don’t he? The Leader of the Free World, Ladies and Gents!
Choom Gang President. *SPIT*
Agree or disagree, it is Selective Enforcement that makes me see red. If we don’t like a law, there are ways to change it. In the meantime, enforce it. Can we say Immigration law?!
She was a charter sorority sister with Holder’s wife. Think anything done so far will be investigated? I’d be a hoot if the liberals scuttled her nomination, though.
She is in the process of being confirmed and will say what is needed in order to be confirmed. She will then follow in Holder’s footsteps and prosecute what Obama wants and ignore what Obama wants ignored.
So if a state ignores a federal anti-RKBA law, would advocate fedgov enforce that law?
Why not support fedgov enforcing constitutional laws, like immigration, and support the states when fedgov tramples the Tenth Amendment?
whats here stance on illegals sneaking into this county? If she sides with odumbo, she does not deserve the position of Attorney General.
Sides with him like white on rice.
