AMES, Iowa–An Iowa State University student is recovering at the hospital after his family says he was attacked.

Twenty-year-old Cale Truhlsen was leaving a party last weekend when his family says he was confronted by a group of adult males.

At 6’9, 230 pounds, Cale sticks out in a crowd. His family is hoping someone saw the altercation or recognized the alleged suspects.

Sounds like a real brave gang who wanted to "have their way" with the young lady he was escorting and didn't appreciate being told no.

Whatever happened to the media’s “hate crime” designation? Seems a few years ago in the rare occurrence of a gay or black being attacked by a white, it was automatically a “hate crime”.

Now we see “hate crimes” daily by blacks excused as a “(fill in the blank) gone bad”.

He took a locally publicized BB scholarship to a small college in Cedar Rapids. He has indeed transferred to Iowa State to try to be a walk-on for Fred Hoiberg.

This was a very serious beating, not just a scuffle.
