Scott Walker's immigration problem: He backed the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill [truncated]
Politico ^ | February 18, 2015 | Gabriel Debenedetti

Posted on 02/19/2015 7:02:11 AM PST by C19fan

Scott Walker was definitive when asked about his position on illegal immigration earlier this month: “We need to secure the border. I think we need to enforce the legal system. I’m not for amnesty,” he told ABC News. “I’m not an advocate of the plans that have been pushed here in Washington.” But the likely presidential candidate apparently stood on another side of that debate as the Milwaukee County Executive in 2006. That year, he signed a resolution calling on Congress to pass the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, a bill authored by John McCain and Teddy Kennedy that was denounced at the time by conservatives as “amnesty” — and remains anathema to party activists.

Walker is a fully-owned subsidiary of the US Chamber of Crony-Fascists.

That's all you need to know.

And you cite Politico as your source?

Good luck chuck. They're so wanting us to know the truth about all things over there. They would NEVER lie to divide conservatives......

He needs a come to Jesus moment with immigration.

I’m not trying to scuttle Walker by any means. I just don’t want equivocations about what the term “Amnesty” means in his mind, interpretations, variations or anything of the sort. I don’t care if he says he’s against current whatever ongoing or contemplated by Congress. Don’t mean a thing as they used to say back in the 70s.

What I WANT him to clearly state and expound upon if needed is that he is not for any action that will allow those here illegally to remain here legally with full rights resulting from that status. They are criminals and should not be allowed a path to citizenship under any circumstance - established laws should govern. We don’t need ‘reform’; we need politicians with balls enough to speak their convictions and let the chips fall where they may.

Get over it, Politico is trying to stir up divisiveness on the right. And the “all or nothing” crowd can take a flying leap.

Walker needs a credible permanent logical explanation. I’ll wait for it.

Yes, my first thought. Getting ready for a year and a half of freepers who demand that candidates not vary one iota from some impossible standard “or I’m not voting. So there!”

Leftico is not our friend. Walker does have an amnesty issue, but this article smells like divide and conquer.

Immigration is not a small matter, it is a deal breaker. If we end up with two pro immigration candidates I will vote Democrat to hasten the downfall.

There has been plenty of criticism of Walker on his “amnesty” stance. Can anybody cite Ted Cruz’s stance (with links) on how to deal with the “amnesty” issue, namely what will he do with the 20+ million of them here illegally?

He (Walker) needs a come to Jesus moment on immigration

His support was in 2006, before millions more invaders were enabled to enter the US. Before it became so blatantly obvious that there would be no economic recovery for the working class, because of unfair invader competition for jobs.

Walker could say "the situation has changed since 2006. I can no longer support those who enter the US illegally, in any circumstances".

My suspicion is that you're correct and he's another Chamber-of-Commerce waterboy they can try to sneak by us because he has no DC voting record.

A lot of people buried their heads in the sand saying to themselves that Romney was really a conservative, that a GOP controlled Congress would actually do something about protecting the Constitution, and that the gay marriage movement would never be successful.

There have been many indications, not just from Politico, that Walker is soft on immigration. We can be open-minded and aware of this, or we can rely on wishful thinking and “hope” it away.

I agree wholeheartedly. Each and every one of the candidates owes us the obligation of dropping the spin and circumlocutions on their amnesty/immigration/border security positions.

I want to make an informed vote and not have any unpleasant surprises after the fact based upon some mealy-mouthed response. This is too important of an issue to let any of them get away with that.

do with the 20+ million of them here illegally?

Enforce the laws and the illegals will go home on their own JUST LIKE THEY GOT HERE on their own.

A Jeb Bush nomination would certainly inspire a Tea Party nominee in most states I believe.
I’d think that produces a 50D/30R/20T outcome or thereabouts.
