Neatly hidden in his new budget that slashes hundreds of millions of dollars from the public university system, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has proposed that universities no longer be required to report the number of sexual assaults on campus to the Department of Justice. It also includes language to, “Delete the requirement that any person employed at an institution who witnesses a sexual assault on campus or receives a report from a student enrolled in the institution that the student has been sexually assaulted report the assault to the dean of students.” No explanation for the deletions is given.
Here is why:

Scott Walker remove a requirement that all 26 campuses report allegations of sexual assaults to the state every year because it already submits similar information to the federal government, a UW spokesman said Friday.
The proposal to delete the annual reports to the state Department of Justice is among dozens of requirements that would be removed as part of Walker's plan to decouple the university from most state laws and state oversight. Though the budget proposal came out earlier this month, the sex assault request was explained in a summary released Thursday by the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau.
UW System spokesman Alex Hummel said Friday that the university requested the change because information given to the state is duplicative of data required to be reported to the U.S. Department of Education under federal law. The university also posts the information on its website....."

I can just imagine how the LA & NY Slimes will spin this...
One of them questioned why one was not reported to the police. My take was because filing a false police report can get you jailed; filing a false campus report when the dude doesn't call you next day can not.
Sounds like there a few unnecessary jobs, even before this, that the state can get rid of as the fed is already doing them.
Campus police handle campus crime and that does include rape.. whether it is fake or not. Another way campuses can keep the stats down. Who wants to send their daughter to a campus with a high reporting/conviction level of rape. It’s all about the benjamins.
It’s a 2.5% cut. If the University can’t absorb THAT, while the rest of us are hanging on by our friggin’ FINGERNAILS in this state, supporting THEM with our tax dollars...Eff them!
