Gay Marriage Isn’t About Justice, It’s About Selma Envy
The Federalist ^ | March 31, 2015 | Hane Fiene

Why do so many young adults paint absurd caricatures of Christians who request government protection of their religious freedoms, arguing their true goal is to ban gay men from sitting at the local lunch counter? Why do they spread falsehoods about legislation, insisting that bills like the one recently signed by Indiana Gov. Mike Pence will unleash a Republican-led Jim Crow revival aimed at the LGBT community? Why do so many people, Gen Xers and younger, invent a monster of anti-gay bigotry and keep screaming the monster is real despite a mountain of contrary facts standing before them?

The answer is “social studies.” My generation engages in straw men, misinformation, and lies because, in every year of social studies class, we studied the civil-rights movement not as history, but as hagiography. We didn’t just learn what events happened on American soil, we were encouraged to mimic the segregation-defeating holy ones and merit for ourselves a place alongside them in glory. Combining that admonition with our general aversion to hard work, we concluded that the only thing necessary to be as righteous as the saints who fought racial injustice was to decry an injustice that no one else was. And we became so desperate to find that injustice, we lost our minds in the process.

It’s also about benefits. Mainly Government benefits.

Your tax dollars at work.

If you base your self-image of yourself as a good person on your fight against injustice, if there is no major injustice around you’re forced to elevate minor injustices to such status.

BTW, this also, to a considerable extent, explains the huge number of hoax racist attacks and rapes. If white supremacists don’t conveniently show up for you to heroically resist, you have to invent them.

It’s all about the gays. They are the hub of the universe and it revolves around them.

Gays don’t want to be left alone. They want...no, DEMAND public affirmation that what perverted acts are acceptable. Why? Because inside, they know their perverted acts are perverted and wrong. It makes them miserable. But if, every day, every single person “celebrates” their gayness with them, they will feel better about themselves.

You see, the militant homo-fascists are not concerned that we should see what they do as OK and acceptable. They aren’t trying to convince us, they are trying to convince themselves. So they extort affirmation out of the 97% of non-gay population at every encounter, in the hope that someday they can really accept themselves; actually, that they can FORGIVE themselves. And that’s why the attack first on the psychological and psychiatric professions to de-classify homosexuality as a mental illness. Now the attack is on the Word of God to somehow “erase” homosexuality as a sin.

The problem is that it’s not working. Oh, outwardly, the homo-fascists are beating down public opposition to their agenda. Yes, that part is working. What’s not working is the real goal of feeling better about themselves, and ending the torture and misery in their consciences over the wrongfulness of their conduct. It is an unreachable goal; they’ll never get there because homosexuality is wrong and a sin. But the attempt to achieve it will drive them to ever greater lengths to demand acceptance and affirmation.

And the lengths they have already gone are frightening enough.

The old fashioned usage of the word gay makes it all the more galling to older people like myself. The word has been stolen.

Difficult to realise that the popular cartoon show closed down so long ago. (1966) It was the Flintstones. The saga of a stone age family and their easily recognisable problems.

The opening introduction mentioned "We'll have a Yabba dabba doo time, a dabba doo time. We'll have a gay old time". All old fashioned family stuff. Historically the gay cavaliers were swashbucklers, drinkers, cavalry soldiers. They enjoyed their "wenches" as well.

Many Gays are not gay by any means. If miserable internally, they seek to spread their misery.

The conceit of the homo advocates is that they truly believe everybody, except for a few conservative bigots, well and truly loves homosexuality and believes it the equal of heterosexuality.

The truth is probably many loyal Dems are disgusted with homosexuality. But like conservative Republicans many of these Dems tolerate it. I've know homosexuals and liked a number of them. I've had relatives and co-workers who were homosexuals. I got along with them just fine.

However, all the time I never thought homosexuality was anything but a mental disorder. But like other people with mental disorders I don't hate homosexuals. I'd like to see them cured...if it were possible. It might not be. But I'll never believe homosexuality is to be encouraged.

I agree with your statement. I does give me a chance to clarify what I was trying to say. Yes, it is the militant homosexual advocates who may disturb peoples lives and who give the homosexual a bad name. Their pet smear of “homophobia” is very effective. As for those who do not interfere with anyone else and live their lives unobtrusively, I am supportive of their privacy.

Wedding envy helps explain the revolution -- and it is the closest thing to a revolution America has seen in our lifetime.

If one side is talking about weddings and the other side is talking about anal sex and fissures and such, who, really, do you think America will listen to?

It’s mainly about being able to punish and to keep punishing their worst enemies by using the power of the state. Who are their worst enemies? The ones that they know can never change their views on ‘gay marriage’ or homosexual acts.

If it was about state benefits, wouldn’t a higher % of gays be getting married in the states were it has been legal for years?

“If you base your self-image of yourself as a good person on your fight against injustice, if there is no major injustice around you’re forced to elevate minor injustices to such status.”

Outstanding insight. That is what the author was saying. Progressives want to have a cause bigger than themselves and which make them feel important and good about themselves and morally superior to others. Since they have rejected god and Christianity, they have to search for something else, like gay rights, global warming, abortion rights, etc.

Not state benefits, necessarily.

Corporate benefits, such as healthcare or half of someone’s pension in a divorce.

Also federal benefits, such as half of a spouse’s social security, military spousal benefits, etc.

Your point is well taken regarding the shot-callers at the top of the political pyramid; but, to the rank-and-file homosexuals, it’s more about the Benjamins.

We’re talking billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded goodies.

Right. The civil rights movement of the 60s was the last major issue on which the Left was indisputably on the right side.

That’s why the issue du jour is always the “civil rights issue of our time.” Doesn’t matter how little it has in common with actual civil rights.

A good point about the leaders of the agenda vs. the rank and file.

Exactly. And even if they’re able to force every living person to agree with them, it still won’t change what God said about the issues of marriage and sex in His Holy, inerrant Word.
