"In the 19th Century you did have only locally grown products....People in the Northeast, Midwest and Mountain States seldom saw an orange or other citrus fruit their entire lives."

Some time ago I found a site that featured photos from Ft. Riley, KS from around the 1870s to around WWI. Some of the photos were of Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners from way back then. I was amazed to see bananas on the tables - I couldn't figure out how they had managed to make the trip that must have taken a few weeks and still be good enough to eat.

Your love is odd...Why? All those Harvey Milks would starve, no water would be used and no trucks would pollute the Earf. WIN, WIN, WIN.

Yeah, let’s see these dipsticks supply locally while implementing Agenda 21. These same idiots want people crammed into cities to reduce the need for housing and living space and at the same time want to produce everything locally. They are such morons. I bet he can’t even see the contradiction.

More utopian idiocy!

The schools need to do a better job of teaching math.

Americans consume on average around 5.5 pounds of food a day.

That is 2,007 pounds or one ton of food per year, per person.

New York city has a population of about 8,200,000.

That means that New York City would need 8.2 million tons or 16.5 BILLION pounds of food a year.

They aren't going to produce anywhere near that amount of food in window boxes, on rooftops, or in parks.

Imagine the amount of food required to provide 1 ton of food to each person in just America's cities.

10 Largest US Cities By Population (2010 census)

New York - Pop. 8.2 million
Los Angeles - Pop. 3.8 million
Chicago - Pop. 2.7 million
Houston - Pop. 2.1 million
Phoenix - Pop. 1.5 million
Philadelphia Pop. 1.5 million
San Antonio - Pop. 1.4 million
San Diego - Pop. 1.3 million
Dallas - Pop. 1.2 million
San Jose - Pop. 1.0 million

You WANT people to suffer? My children are students here and we are just trying to live our lives, why do you want us to suffer?

Yeah, we should start growing coffee, cocoa, and sugar in Florida and shut out all the third world countries where the production of coffee, cocoa, and sugar is one of their few ways to make money.

How long do you think it would take for the Greenies to start calling Americans racist greedheads for depriving those third world countries from one of their few sources of income? Faster than you can say AlGore.

For the sheeperal, knowing that they are “good people” for “caring” is enough.

P.J. O’Rourke had liberals figured out a long time ago:

The principle feature of American liberalism is sanctimoniousness. By loudly denouncing all bad things -- war and hunger and date rape -- liberals testify to their own terrific goodness.

More important, they promote themselves to membership in a self-selecting elite of those who care deeply about such things.

It's a kind of natural aristocracy, and the wonderful thing about this aristocracy is that you don't have to be brave, smart, strong or even lucky to join it, you just have to be liberal.

I’m generally with you, given the caveat that it’s a personal choice I’m expressing, not one I’d force on anyone else.

I’m actually willing to pay a premium for something not that economically efficient if it means keeping local businesses in business, and retaining knowlege of things like farming in my local area. If tshtf at some point, it’ll be local farmers etc keeping me and my family fed, not Big Ag.

But again, a personal opinion and choice.

“At Wheaton, a visiting professor from Scotland proposed that global warming could be stopped if people sourced food, energy, and other life essentials locally”

He could have skyped into the meeting. That would have said something. As it is, we notice when there algore types arrive in a limo, and travel globally.
I have a right to everything they do. Actually, I have a right to use all the resources I can pay for.

Exactly. You must have read David Horowitz. He has put it best, "The issue with the left [climate change] is never the issue. The issue is always the [socialist] revolution." None of this has anything to do with global warming or climate change or the environment or saving the planet. Don't get me wrong. The vast majority of those at the bottom of the liberal food chain believe this issue is real and is about "fixing" the climate. That is what they have been told, taught and indoctrinated to think. They want to "feel good about themselves" for addressing an issue they think is laudable. That is all that counts...to assuage their guilty feelings, not fixing the climate itself.

But the powers behind the climate change movement, the elitist left, know better. To them the objective has to do with destroying free market capitalism and substituting radical socialism in its place or system change. Simple as that. The climate change movement is just a ruse to cover what their real goals are. In other words, it's all one big head fake.

If they stick to getting their food only from local sources, they will soon eating each other.

That's really not a bad outcome.

GO GREEN!
