Some great scenes in that movie with a B-17..

Still, Steve McQueen with that BAR in that attack on that Chinese river boom.. You could tell that he did that for a living at one point in his life!

I just found an interview with McQueen’s widow, in which she says “We believe Steve was first exposed to cancer in the late ‘40s while working at the Washington D.C. Naval Yard, removing asbestos-filled insulation from the hold of a ship.” It is also common knowledge that he used flame retardant masks and suits when racing cars which probably further exposed him.

Another asbestos casualty is Paul Gleason, who was in “Trading Places” and “The Breakfast Club”, who figured he got a good lung full of it while working construction jobs as a young man. Needless to say, all sad stories.

Back when men were men and movies were worth watching.

[Sigh]

Long but yes, a good movie that takes some effort to watch. So is Papillon for that matter.

I like to refer to them as McQueen’s “epics”.

I have been working toward buying a 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS. Loaded in either Carmine Red or Racing Yellow. I hope to be paying considerably less. ;>)

The long wait is driving me crazy, but my wife argues that I already am.

The Gulf station gave away these with each purchase as a promo when the original movie came out. When I was a kid my bedroom was plastered with them.
