American Churches Who Oppose Same-Sex Marriage Will Lose Tax Exemption
Virtue Online ^ | May 2, 2105 | Timothy A. Pope

The admission was made by Barack Hussein Obama's lawyer, the sitting Solicitor General of the United States, Donald Verrilli, Jr., on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, during questioning by Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Samuel Alito, Jr.

Solicitor General Verrilli, using a public office to defend same-sex marriage on behalf of the United States, was asked by Justice Alito if religious institutions could be at risk of losing their tax-exempt status due to their beliefs about Biblical marriage.

Verrilli's reply was, "It's certainly going to be an issue."

Will our wives be forced into prostitution soon also, like the dark days of the Roman empire? Once you degrade a perceived enemy as completely worthless and contemptible there is nothing you cant do to them and theirs.

I really don’t think the loss of the exemption is a big deal...

First of all, more than half of the population files a short form and can’t get a tax right off anyway. As far as property tax is concerned, that’s a state issue. As far as income taxes are concerned, most churches don’t make a profit... If they do they should not be exempt anyway.

But don’t Muslims oppose gay marriage? Shouldn’t mosques lose their exemptions?

Has the time of nullification arrived?

If this happens, an unintended consequence might be complete reform of the tax code itself, as it will then impose a very obvious breach of both the 1st -- where freedom of religion is enshrined -- and 14th Amendments, where equitable treatment of all under the law is the intent.

Could be that faggots overplay their hand and blow up the tax code in the process. This could get interesting.

Most churches are kept alive by big donors..not the small ones. The lack of a deduction for contributions will be a big issue.

losing the federal tax exemption makes tithing more expensive.

but the real killer will be property taxes.

church properties in expensive real estate markets can be worth millions or tens of millions of dollars.

if “discriminatory” churches are subject to the highest commercial property tax rate, they will all lose their buildings in short order.

This is where it’s going.

Another poster pointed out to me that where a lot of churches will get hurt is that those that tithe will lose their tax deductions. This will really hurt the churches because fewer people will be tithing.

Obama and his thugs are going to lose on this one way or another. There will be a judgment and their day will come.

Just because property taxes are a state issue doesn’t mean they won’t have to pay them if they lose tax exempt status. Even small churches are often sitting on prime, otherwise commercial property and have very valuable buildings. The taxes would be crushing.

I guess the government can then PAY for the use of the facilities as polling places. Regardless, this is a shockingly horrible thing to do. Obama is a very bad person and unworthy of his office.

“but the real killer will be property taxes”

Like I said earlier, property tax is not a Fed issue, it’s state and local...

Your post makes me realize that part of this scheme may be to essentially take over the valuable property. If they cannot pay their taxes they will lose the property.

I have to agree here. Any church concerned about a tax exempt status looks to me like they are more focused on the "god business" rather than religion.

There is something not right about pastors being driven around in limos and living in huge mansions but this is what not paying any taxes can do.

Imagine the lifestyle every American could have were they "tax exempt" like churches !

Why give anyone tax exempt status then? There are many nonprofit groups I would enjoy seeing lose their tax exempt status. Fair is fair.

Probably not. Everybody knows black churches aren't political.

Very sad to hear this because people who tithe are honoring God and shouldn’t be looking for a tax break. You are likely correct, though. Jesus did say that one cannot serve both God and money. Christians should consider that matter with God regardless of what the government says.
