Royal Dutch Shell’s quest to return to Arctic drilling for the first time in three years could face delays after Seattle ruled that the city’s port must apply for a permit for the company to use it as a hub for drilling rigs.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, a Democrat who has fought against new projects by coal and oil companies, applauded the requirement by the city’s planning department.

“This is an opportunity for the port and all of us to make a bold statement about how oil companies contribute to climate change, oil spills and other environmental disasters – and reject this short-term lease,” Seattle’s Mayor Ed Murray said on his website.

It is time to focus the economy on electric cars and transit and “environmentally progressive businesses,” Murray said.

And an economy based on rainbows, unicorns and butterfly s.

How about freedom, buffoon mayor? What a nut cast. Wrong premise, ergo wrong solutions.

Someone should point out to this moron that electric cars are actually coal powered cars. The stupid is strong in that city.

they Must have to sit though a course on how much energy is needed in the US on a given day, how much can be supplied by BS power, and how much oil is needed for his stupid city to not come to standstill.

I’m sure Victoria could use the biz, and the jobs.

If he is not simply being a hypocrite, then every power plant that serves Seattle should be shut off. No one in Seattle should be allowed to use gasoline. No one should be allowed to cook food. No one should be allowed to shower using hot water. There should be no motors or engines allowed to run. There should be no water pumps and no households with running water.

In short, Seattle should return to the early 17th century.

My guess is the mayor is just being a hypocrite.

“I’m sure Victoria could use the biz, and the jobs.”

I hope so! (And I’m near Seattle - screw ‘em).

Just like the idiot union dock workers. They were having a big strike a month or more ago. The main container company, after the strike was over, closed their operations in the Port of Tacoma.

Well no...at least not in the western Washington area, which is blessed with abundant hydroelectric power (and which the eco-nuts are rapidly destroying so "save the salmon"). Likely true in many other places, though. And if they destroy enough dams..probably here (I live in WW) as well.

Shell has been planning to base a drilling rig and tug boats in Seattle before heading up Arctic waters off Alaska.
Seattle is all hot on making $15 the minimum wage for working at McDonald's while turning away high paying energy sector and marine transit jobs.

Maybe we could interest some jihadis in visiting Seattle. Tell them the infidels are offending Allah by interfering with the petroleum industry...

“...and other environmental disasters.”

A few winters ago a school bus with kids almost slid off a 30’ wall due to the ice. The City of Seattle doesn’t use salt on the roads due to environmental concerns of it washing into Puget Sound.

My 14 year old at the time said “What a bunch of idiots. Puget Sound is salt water!”

(After the bus incident they have started using salt.)
