Scott Walker promises a "contrast" with Clinton's foreign policy
CBS ^ | 5-17-15 | Rebecca Kaplan, Face the Nation

If he runs for president in 2016, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker promises that "the contrast would be clear" between his foreign policy and that of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"If I choose to get in this race, [foreign policy is] something I'm going to lay out a very clear plan for what we should do going forward, and how we should address the issues we face here in America and the issues we face around the world. I think there's a wide open door to lay out a very clear doctrine. And I do think that if foreign policy plays an important role, the contrast would be clear," Walker said on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday.

"Just about everywhere that Hillary Clinton has played a role with this president, under President Obama, that part of the world is largely a failure, a mess, because of the policies that we've seen from Obama and Clinton," he added.

~snip~

Asked about his foreign policy credentials, Walker said, "I think as a governor, it's really ultimately about leadership."

"To me, in my lifetime, one of the best presidents when it comes to foreign policy was a governor from California. In my lifetime, one of the worst presidents when it comes to foreign policy was a freshman senator from Illinois," he said.

As an example of what he could do as a governor, Walker pointed to the fact that he already had experience assembling a cabinet and going on trade missions abroad. And he said "having the good sense to listen" to the people he would put in place as president is important...

As for whether he is actually running for president, Walker promised to announce his intentions at the end of June after Wisconsin's state budget is finalized.

All he’d have to do is be pro-American — and Hillary’s policies would stand in sharp contrast.

Ted Cruz has never governed, unlike Scott Walker. Maybe assembling a cabinet doesn’t sound awe inspiring, but having the right people counseling you is important. President Jimmy Carter was a micro-manager and a failure.

“A CONTRAST.?... what weak nebulous word..”

That is the first thing that crossed my mind when I read this article.

Ted Cruz is the only true Conservative in this race.

~~Cruz, OR LOSE~~

Seriously, HP, how can anyone prefer this guy over Cruz? His positions are lame and wishy washy.

I guess it has something to do with having actual accomplishments. You know, qualifications. Not to mention an indisputably successful electoral track record. Little stuff like that.

This is like going to Costco looking for something important, having the great fortune to find pretty much exactly what you want immediately -- one of those things where you know looking for a better deal is going to be a waste of time. So you get it and save yourself a whole day of stress at minimum shopping around for a better deal, or max risk of losing the opportunity to get it because it's one of few in stock and that's how it goes at Costco -- deals have small windows of opportunity.

Spending the day looking for a better deal when the likelihood of one existing is pretty much nil, would be a stupid way to shop.

Cruz is the right guy, exactly right in conservatism -- not perfect, but exactly right for the times. Many have thought so for awhile. It is mind-boggling that some conservatives are willing to risk this singular opportunity, in the guise of finding something as good or better. To pursue this waste of time by waiting to see who else joins the dog-and-poly show that now numbers FIFTEEN officially declared Republicans, not including TEN more who are in the exploratory phase (among them Walker, Jeb, Christie, Jindhal, and our very own Donald Trump). We could end up with 25 Republican candidates. We've got 15 now! It's schizophrenic -- TWENTY FIVE including declared and officially exploratory.

This versus a sane scenario of SEVEN declared Democrats, with three "exploratory," for a max expected field of TEN.

The best guy, Ted Cruz, declared early, yet Republicans are still playing "deep field" selection games in badly arranged primaries, the "deep field" ranging from functional Democrats to limited government Constitutional Christian conservatives like Cruz.

Name ONE candidate on the Democrat roster that is a functional Republican, let alone a functional limited government conservative. Yet our hapless party offers a whole rainbow of its political opposite.

The whole thing is as crazy and pranged as a train wreck. It's kinda obvious, yet here we are careering on a hope and a scream toward a perfect world where the Republican party nominates Cruz, yet so many are ready to risk losing it all looking for a better deal and blowing the opportunity all to hell. That the GOP would nominate an actual limited government conservative is a short chance in the first place; the only way to foil primaries stacked against it, is to unite NOW behind the guy, and he's declared. And folks are still thinking, "Nah, now, there's probably somebody better over there ..."

Well, the stuff that I object to about Walker is his $100 fine, path to citizenship garbage. He would not have accomplished anything as governor were it not for his Republican legislature, but he never mentions their hard work.

I think he is weak on social issues as well. He said there would be no Religious Liberty bills passed in Wisconsin. I have yet to hear him articulate a foreign policy position, so we’ll wait and see on that, but immigration is the issue I can’t get past with Walker. I truly don’t think he can be trusted on it.
