Court Won't Exempt Notre Dame From Birth Control Provision

A federal appeals court has rejected the University of Notre Dame's request to temporarily be exempt from a provision in the Affordable Care Act that requires the Catholic school's insurance providers to cover the costs of contraceptives for students and staff.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 on Tuesday that an exemption provided by President Barack Obama's administration allows Notre Dame to avoid directly paying for contraceptives, and therefore doesn't force the school to violate its religious beliefs. Notre Dame contends that the law forces it to violate Catholic doctrine, which bars most forms of birth control, by becoming conduits to purchasing contraceptives.

The three-judge panel didn't rule on the merits of the case; it only refused to allow the university to opt out of the provision as its lawsuit makes its way through the courts.

They abandoned God, God returned the favor. Justice served.

All the tenets of islamics must be respected at all costs.
Christianity’s, not so much.

I'll bet there isn't a muslim institution on planet that's sold out out its convictions like "Catholic Colleges" have.

Notre Dame in only Catholic in the same sense that Federal Express is part of the federal government.

Notre dame reached out and bestowed an honorary doctorate on a man whose entire known legislative record was sponsoring a bill to legalize murdering babies after they’re born (if the parents had wanted them aborted). This return to paganism and the murder of helpless innocent children distinguishes notre dame as a post- (or pre-) Christian school ( and a major embarrassment to all faithful everywhere).

EVERYONE is exempt. Compulsion to contract is illegal.

Notre Dame can seek redemption. Jenkin’s can resign, The Board can withdraw the honorary degree, and the Institution can flatly refuse to obey the law regardless of the Court decision or the penalties imposed. Once there would have been no question a Catholic institution of any sort would take that course. Sadly today it is just as likely that Notre Dame will meekly comply with the vile “law”.

I thought the supreme court already ruled on this in the Hobby Lobby case, and said corporations can be exempt that have religious principles.

I'm confused - what other courts are involved? Why would the appeals court make a ruling if the case hadn't worked its way to the appeals court?

Notre Dame has been such a disappointment in their dealings with the revolutionary socialist government.

When will Christian universities be as brave as a pizza place 20 miles down the road? Or as brave as a small town florist?

Shameful.

The solution is simple. Just don’t conform to the law. If enough universities do that, Obama and his administration will be shown for just what they are, a paper tiger.

The Federal government's first step would be to disqualify Notre Dame from receiving any Federal student aid. The second step would be to disqualify Notre Dame students from receiving Federally guaranteed loans.

I have no doubt that Notre Dame would capitulate like a wet noodle at that point.

Thirty pieces of silver will do it every time.

The priest in the video is Fr. Norman Weslin who had worked for Mother Teresa bringing New York City alcoholics and drug addicts back to God before becoming a legendary Rescue priest assailing abortion mills all over the country with floods of nonviolent Christians to shut the mills generally for several weeks, desterilize their instruments and break raw eggs into their suction machines.

He was a client of mine in Connecticut Rescues and he was the toughest and most moral man I have been privileged to know.

He was in his eighties when arrested at Notre Dame and he went home to God in May, 2012. If we had a hundred like him, "legal" abortion in the US would be nothing but an unpleaant memory.

Lay down with muslims you’re gonna’ get fleas.

It really pisses me off that Christians have to go against their beliefs for Obamacare while all muslims are exempt because it’s against their religious beliefs.

I’m convinced the republicans afraid of the evil in chief.
