Teamsters spend big on politics while preparing to cut pensions

The Teamsters have begun informing retirees and current workers that their pension benefits may soon be cut, the final ironic twist to a lobbying campaign that saw the union spend its own members' dollars to win the right to shrink their retirement pay.

The somber notifications began going out from the Teamsters Central States Health and Welfare Pension Fund this spring, a decision that could ultimately affect 410,000 current pension participants and a total of more than 10 million U.S. workers nationwide. Cuts could begin as early as next year.

Remember the old TV ad? Should have been singing "Beware the union label." You think the head cheese asshats are gonna take a cut on their pensions? Takes a lot of money to screw over your union buds. I've got a bro-in-law who's a teamster but haven't gotten a chance to ask him how his future looks yet. DIE HARD union man.

Of course, less union members, less dues. Less dues, dwindling resources to meet all the union obligations.

They will not give up the Union hierarchy management costs, and they will not give up their bribes to Democrat politicians in the form of donations. The only other costs are rank-and-file strike and pension funds. Logical choice for thieves, liars, communists and criminals.

These unions are counting on the Democrats they help elect to bail them out. They are “paying it forward,” as they put it. Most of us would call it “extortion.”

Good for you. I’ve been in IAM and UAW AND I’ve mangaged guys that were in them. It’s amazing to see how some of the hard core guys get so hateful. Guys I used to work next to. Totally indoctrinated into believing management is out to get them fired. Seems to me that would kind of defeat the purpose of being in business.

This is an old article but the information on the health of the country’s biggest pensions I’m sure is still relevant.

http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-coming-union-pension-plan-collapse.html

I am anti-union for many reasons not the least of which is their socialist/communist ideas that run under the guise of “brotherhood”. I am pro American made products. I go to great lengths and expense to try to support my country through my purchases in personal and business transactions
However if you are a union member and you are counting on some retirement program that YOU funded and you think will be there I strongly suggest you get informed on the condition said union is in financially.
I have been a member of two unions Local 541 Teamsters and Local 101 Operating Engineers in Kansas City. My father was Local 2 Sheet Metal Workers, grandfather and my uncle were union plumbers, my grandfather and uncle on the other side where union roofers, my fathers in law was a boilermaker and my wifes stepfather was a teamster.
I cannot believe how uninformed most union members are especially since they allow the unions to control such a large part of their lives.
Union pensions are exactly like a pyramid scheme, without more coming in on the bottom the top gets lopsided and falls apart.
I wish no ill on any union member but I despise the unions unyielding blanket support of democrats and their Anti-American ways. I am amazed at the total ignorance of union members as it concerns politics and the results of democrat policies.

Union pensions will be cut drastically, there is no way around it except for the Fed gov to bail them out. This is exactly what the illegal bailout of GM was all about.

Too little too late I am afraid.
For the members sake I hope not but I can’t see any way for most pension funds to recover.

I am a life long conservative. The membership around me has been asking a variety of questions that show me the actions of Obama administration is causing life long democrats to question methods and motives of democrats.

The membership around you never noticed the democrat policies until Obama? That shows how mindless the following has been.

Yes. We have a prime example in Detroit. The last republican was elected in the greater Detroit area in 1964. Detroit was the first major city to “fall” to liberalism. The connection isn’t made nationally, in the media, or in academia.

Well, that was the deal he made with Satan that saved his life when the Nazis were slaughtering Jews.
