Ukraine Gay Pride Parade Attacked With Stones, Smoke Bombs

A Ukrainian gay pride parade in the capital of Kiev was attacked on Saturday, wounding five policemen. The radical Right Sector group had threatened the pride marchers ahead of the event.

“There will be thousands of us,” Right Sector spokesman Artem Skoropadskyi had warned the protesters on Friday, Kyiv Post reported. “Gay propaganda is destructive and doing harm to our Christian nation, we can’t allow that.”

Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko had also called for the marchers to stand down, saying: “In Kiev there is no harassment on any grounds and each person is guaranteed freedom of expression and belief. However, the 'March of Equality' and in peacetime the increased degree of tension in society has caused much controversy and fights and confrontation have taken place,” the Daily Beast reported, citing his statement released this week.

Ukraine’s first planned gay pride parade was canceled in 2012 amid threats of violence and condemnation. The country's first-ever successful gay pride parade was held in 2013 under the protection of 1,500 police officers but lasted for only one hour.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, however, came out in support of the event. In a Friday press conference, he became the first Ukrainian leader to support LGBT rights when he voiced his approval of “the march of equality as a Christian and as a president-European. This aligns things. I will not participate in it, but I see no reason that someone should prevent it for it is the constitutional right of every Ukrainian citizen,” the Daily Beast reported.

Although Ukraine was the first former Soviet country to decriminalize homosexuality in 1991, a spate of violence has targeted LGBT residents and activists, many of whom were attacked simply for “appearing gay,” Gay Alliance Ukraine's Vice President Stas Mischenko told the Global Post.

"Mr Yushchenko, a pro-European politician who wanted to bring his country [The Ukraine] out of Russia's shadow, fell seriously ill on September 6, 2004 as he was competing in presidential elections against a pro-Moscow candidate, Viktor Yanukovich, now prime minister.

After months of tests in an Austrian clinic, it was determined that he had ingested a massive amount of the poison dioxin.

Although he survived, his face was left bloated and pockmarked, and he has had to undergo regular treatment to rid his body of the toxin.

In an interview with Le Figaro he said he believed the dioxin used to disfigure him was made in a Russian lab.

Mr Yushchenko did not directly accuse the Russian government of being behind his poisoning, but he did say he had 'practically put all the pieces together' and the attempt against him 'was not a private action'. ..."

I recall my first impression of these pukes when I relocated to the Bay Area circa 1978, right after the Dan White last stand for sanity moment. I could not believe it.

The following spring I picked up a buddy and his wife at the airport and was driving home the weekend of the Fag Pride Parade. I said something to the effect they should be melted down with flame throwers. I thought his wife would have a fit citing I was not an open minded person. We have not spoken since.

I am still not “open minded”. I don’t care what people do at home but a public display of one’s divident sexual mores is not what I think free expression is all about. I wonder how the King’s men would have approached the subject? Perhaps I would have ended up a Tory??

As a libertarian socially, I don't think this is a big deal, UNLESS the state department had something to do with tell Ukraine to have the parade. We should NOT tell other nations how to act. We don't like it when the antiAmerican UN tell us what to do, and we shouldn't.

What I saw that day disgusted me. My wife and I decided to take a day in Boston and walk around seeing the sights and so took out young son.

We heard music and saw a crowd and thought we would go over and see what was going on. Boy did we ever!

We turned onto Boylston street and saw right away a float with women dressed as nuns kissing, feeling each other up, and one of them had a cross at her crotch.
We turned around and saw two guys with PVC daisy duke shorts on holding hands and feeling each other butts. No top on but a belt.

We left Boston right away and from day and vowed to never accept them as normal people of society or accept their agenda.
