Amid the rhetoric, China has maintained it has every right to protect its legitimate territorial claims by constructing thousands of acres of sovereign land and, if necessary, enforcing a no-fly zone above the new islands.
But while Beijing admits its Spratly sand castles will indeed be used for military purposes, it also says the primary goal of the entire dredging effort is to assist China in carrying out the country's various civilian demands and international obligations and responsibilities in the area such as maritime search and rescue, disaster prevention and mitigation, marine scientific research, meteorological observation, ecological environment conservation, navigation safety as well as fishery production service.
Now, Beijing has embarked on what looks like a propaganda campaign to show that despite attempts by the US and its regional allies to cast aspersions, island life in the Spratlys is all about girls, gardening, puppies, and pigs.

It implies that anyone attacking the Chinese installations on the Spratleys will be attacking young female PLA recruits, pigs, puppies, and their well kept gardens.
That photo spread serves 2 purposes:
1. After there is a war and much of that infrastructure is destroyed, they’re going to trundle out the photos and scream, “LOOK at what innocent stuff the Americans attacked..!!!”
2. The farm there is built knowing that the small islands might end up BLOCKADED —they want to be able to eat indefinitely, or at least greatly stretch their food supplies. Doubtless they have desalination, etc. Soon, TONS and tons of bristling weapons. It will be a Chinese Corregador.
I looked at the photos, it looks like they eat a lot of BLTs.
One can only imagine the advances the Chinese have made in military technology beyond what obama and the clintons willingly gave them.

Sorry, I don't know how to post a picture.
There’s the picture, thanks.
And perhaps the Chinese should study all three pictures, in their correct order, as a set. Because, hopefully, the next US president won’t be as weak or clueless as the present one.
Do they eat puppies, too, or are they for pets?
The pigs are for eating, but they seem kind of scrawny to me.
