> “... the scope of these trade agreements makes them a treaty Constitutionally.”
Nope. Trade bills are not treaties. Trade deals involve setting tarrifs which are revenues to the United States. The Origination Clause of the Constitution requires all revenue legislation to originate in the House of Representatives. Therefore, there is never a requirement for a Senate supermajority to approve. Therefore again, it cannot be a treaty.
The SECRET Iran deal was treaty material. That is the legislation where you should direct your treaty comments.

When a trade agreement goes beyond tariffs and gets into things like establishing international governing boards and immigration, they are treaties.
To: Diogenesis
Cruz switched because he’s a leader, he listened to the people and reconsidered. He got my vote because it takes guts to say you were wrong, more so to try and fix it.

Seems that many of the right have adopted the same tactics. (Not to mention kissing the ass of every troll who tells them what they want to hear)
Yea, it seems like name-calling, assumption-based accusations with no proof, has become the norm for many FReepers.
Sadly I was and am still surprised by this behavior.

You can call it an Amendment to the Constitution, and it still is just an Congressional Executive Agreement on Trade.

My favorites so far are that Ted Cruz is secretly gay (because he has “gay hair”) and that his wife secretly controls the banking industry.

Yea, there were a lot of outrageous accusations by FReepers I have respected for a long time.
Sadly, I have lost that respect for many of them.
Engage in honest, open, and straight-forward debate using logic and facts.

Yep. But the original TPA explicitly called out that US Law is to be the governing law in all trade agreements that were using it. The TPA that just passed is changed from the TPA that Senator Cruz originally voted on.
We can’t say much about ‘trade agreements’ because they are secret. We may hear rumors, or opinions, but until they are public we are in the dark. I object to this and so does Ted Cruz (that’s a fact).
The SECRET Iran deal was passed by simple majority in Congress and that was likely treaty material unless it opened up trade with Iran. But again we are in the dark.
The only clear issue conservatives should be objecting to is the ‘secrecy’ of all this recent legislation. Unfortunately, the trolls and morons that are buzzing about on these threads leave little space for exchange of facts and opinions on the clear issues.

They claim Cruz changed his vote but he did exactly as he said he would. He voted for it with the amendment he and Sen Sessions supported. when it came back today it didn’t have the amendment so he voted no.

Yup, he's done exactly what he said he would do every step of the way.

I guess folks who support a pure TPA bill support free trade. Since we don’t get trade agreements without TPA, folks who support free trade support TPA that has not been corrupted by liberal amendments.

The are agreements because they require the approval of the House and the Senate.

Ahhh I see old Sandballats and Tobiahs never quit with their propaganda and false words of prophecy.
If God be for Ted Cruz, who ? Can be against him, not even Donald ( Democrat plant, mole ) Trump’s $ Billions can stop Ted Cruz.
To: Hostage
Because Sandballat knows you are correct and does not want to be seen caught in their own lies and propaganda.
Their own words will betray them.
To: cripplecreek
Remember Cripple Creek the degreed to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem with Neiamiah, and those who lied and tried to prevent the rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, Sandballat and Tobiah.
Neiamiah was commissioned by God to rebuild the walls.
To: CatherineofAragon
The proof will never be satisfactory nor acceptable with those with a driven agenda.
After Sandballat and Tobiah failed to prevent the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, and lied about Neiamiah, the King of Persia found out about it and gave those 2 a real smackdown.

I find all this procedural stuff confusing, but if I understand correctly, Cruz was for it before he was against it?No, I don't think that's accurate here. I took it more to mean he's for the idea of it, the principles of free trade...but the actual execution in this instance was fraught with too many poison pills (backroom deals, corruption, substantive & negative changes) and made the entire thing unpalatable.
