How Patriotic is Your Home State? (Click-able map in the link)

According to the website WalletHub, Virginia is the most patriotic state in the union.

States were ranked by "military engagement" (number of veterans per capita, number of active-duty military per capita, and number of people who enlisted in the military) as well as "civic engagement" (percentage of people who voted, percentage of people who volunteer, percentage of people who join the Peace Corps, as well as civics requirements and Google searches for the American flag).

The state with the highest military engagement was Alaska, while the state with the highest civic engagement ranking was Wisconsin.

Personally, I was pretty pleased to see my home state of Maine come out at number 6, while slightly dismayed to see Rhode Island (where I lived for four years while in college) near the bottom at number 48.

How'd your home state do?

Virginia is largely the home of government these days so it naturally has a large number of retired and active duty military personnel.

They mixed some things together that they shouldn’t have, like military enlistments that Utah is 48th on, to volunteerism, which of course Utah is number 1 on.

I also note that some of the most socialist states in the nation get very high marks for being patriotic.

That isn’t an example of patriotism to me.

I find it hard to believe that my socialist state of Washington came in No.2.

Disappointed in Texas. Thought it would be higher.

Texas loves itself
So does NY.

One is justified and the other is NY

Texas does great on the military enlistments.

I think that tells you the political make-up of who designed the criteria, and this dictates how much we should pay attention to the outcome.

For all the noble acts behind the Peace Corp, I don’t think I’ve ever known a Conservative that participated.

Perhaps someone will present me with a list here, and I’ll learn something.

This was correct in Mark Twain’s time. It is still correct now

NJ is 49.

Why am I not surprised? I’m sad, but not surprised.

Did you notice Utah was something like dead last too?

I can see New York, but I don’t see Utah as a very non patriotic state.

I would agree that New York showing up dead last is not something I would expect from a Leftist effort. None the less, Maine, Washington, Oregon, all winding up as some of the most patriotic, sound strange too.

Weighted too much towards military. Maryland, the Freak State, has a lot of active and retired military, but is not that fond of the U.S.

Leftist Maryland is ranked 18th most patriotic? That is total rubbish.

Mormons have a history of anti-Americanism.

Remember that Mitt's family, that came to America about 173 years ago to serve Joseph Smith, are typical, and if you know their family history, it is not patriotic.
