STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Reuters) - Fourth of July holidaymakers ignored a call to boycott Georgia's Stone Mountain Park, known as the "Confederate Rushmore," over its display of the contentious Confederate flag.
Hundreds of people had staked out spots at the 3,200-acre (1,295-hectare) privately run park by noon on Saturday for nighttime laser and fireworks shows. They shrugged off heavy rain on the park's busiest day of the year as well as the boycott call.
Democratic state Representative LaDawn Blackett Jones this week urged people to stay away from the park 10 miles (16 km) east of Atlanta because it flies three flags of the pro-slavery Confederacy alongside the U.S. and Georgia state flags.
Bobbie Smith of Fitzgerald, Georgia, who was camping at Stone Mountain with her family, called the boycott call "just stupid."
This whole park is a Confederate memorial. If you dont have the flag here, where on Earth would you put it? she said.

Sounds like a resounding “bite me” was given to LaDawn.
Exactly! The flag in SC is also over a confederate memorial. As Haley is term limited she won't pay a price for her role in this stupidity and Graham & Scott were just re-elected but others running for office in the next couple of elections will probably pay dearly if the flag in SC is ultimately removed.
I’ll be boycotting today’s race in Daytona. Two good reasons NBC and nastycar. I’ll be in my shop ‘angrily’ working. Happy quadruple week end.
Some say. Studies say... Some call for.......
The real reason all these nebulous calls, citations and such are discussed like this is because if the SPECIFIC origins of them were clearly identified, the importance of what they are saying would automatically be diminished.
What Person? Who called? Who said?
As for Stone Mountain Park, it is owned by the state of Georgia, and there is a House Legislature, Senate and Governor who have the say on it. Roy Barnes, King Roy thought he’d change the state flag. He did it, but he never got reelected again.
LOLOL The park had to close the gates because of the crowds.
The anti-flaggers have sowed the wind. Now they are about to reap the whirlwind.

I used to live within walking distance of the mountain. The boycott is a great idea, wish we would have had it when I lived there. The Amish won’t show up and it would be a much safer experience. A Confederate flag boycott at Stone Mountain is GOOD News!
Saw a pick up truck like that, with an American and Dixie flag in Camden Maine yesterday. God bless America. (Maine is supposed to be the the 6th most patriotic state.)
That being said, when the PC crowd declares war on the Confederate flag, it gives me a desire to fly one just to get in their faces.
Fourth of July
That day we honor and praise our Rebel Founding Fathers while damning and condemning our Rebel grandfathers. At least by our ruling class.
Indeed but make no mistake about. The rebel founding fathers are under attack as well.
La Dawn Blackett she be seriously dissed, nex’ time dere a boycott she be bringin’ dah bruddahs wif’ her, so you whiteys better watch yo’ @zzes!
There are probably more northernors living in the metro area now days than there are native Georgians. I don't have a problem at all with 99% of them, they're very nice folks that just talk kinda funny, but that 1% gets stuck in my craw now and then.
LaDawn (Lets see...she must be a Swede) got her answer on her boycott call...
I didn’t know Michigan was in Dixie.../s
Hmmm...I didn’t know Maine was in Dixie either....
