He sounded very strong at the NRA Convention and in this article. I’m a fierce 2nd Amendment advocate. Both my husband and I have our carry permits and we are both hunters with guns and bows. I would never cast a vote for anyone that did not support gun rights and I have no problem voting for Trump should he win the nomination.

Mine, too. A Cruz/Trump ticket would be unbeatable.

I tried to get tickets to see Trump here in Phoenix tomorrow. They had to move it to a bigger venue and I am still on a long wait list. I probably won't get tickets.

The Mexican radicals are foaming at the mouth here.

"I am against gun control." (Feb 2011)

"For assault weapon ban, waiting period, & background check." (Jul 2000)

If Donald Trump had been a “fresh-faced” 25 year-old just a few years out of a liberal university when he made his most anti-gun comments in 2000 then I could believe that a complete change in his opinions over the next 10-1/2 years was sincere.

However, Mr. Trump was 54 years old in the year 2000. Furthermore, he does not even acknowledge his previous anti-gun comments. He simply announces his current “support” for the 2nd Amendment as if he has always held that position and as if he thinks there are no records of, and no memories of, his past statements.

As far as I am concerned, on the issue of gun rights, Donald trump is a pandering flip-flopper.

Dear WayneS:

I quote:

Donald Trump:

“I certainly stand by my opposition to Gun Control when it comes to taking guns from law-abiding citizens. You mention that the media describes the AR-15 as an “assault rifle,” which is one example of the many distortions they use to sell their agenda. However, the AR-15 does not fall under this category. Gun-banners are unfortunately preoccupied with the AR-15, magazine capacity, grips, and other aesthetics, precisely because of its popularity.”
“To the Left every gun is an assault weapon.”

“Gun control does not reduce crime. It has consistently failed to stop violence. Americans are entitled to protect their families, their property and themselves. In fact, in right-to-carry states the violent crime rate is 24% lower than the rest of the United States and the murder rate is 28% lower. This should not be up for debate.”

That's all well and good, except the "ban on assault weapons" he supported is THE "Clinton Assault Weapons Ban" - the very one which targeted and banned certain rifles based on their appearance and magazines based on their capacities - and which banned NO (as-in, zero, nada, zilch, zippo) actual Assault Weapons (i.e. select-fire and fully automatic rifles and pistols).

I suppose next he'll try to claim that he was referring to the 1934 National Firearms Act when he wrote of his support for "the ban on assault weapons".

He can dance around his previous comments all he wants, but he HAS (apparently) changed his position on the issue. And I don't trust him enough to believe the change is sincere.

Trump defended his donations to New York Democrats in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity that April, proclaiming that in the state, “everyone is Democratic” and implying that to donate otherwise would be waste of his money.
“So, what am I going to do, contribute to Republicans? Am I going to contribute to, I mean, one thing I’m not stupid. Am I going to contribute to a Republican for my whole life when they get, they run against some Democrat. And the most they can get is one percent of the vote,” he said, noting his “good relationship” with and donations to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). Trump last donated to Schumer directly in 2010, though he had made donations ranging from $250 to $2,000 since 1996.
“I mean, I’ve contributed to Schumer, I contribute — I’ve known Schumer for many, many years. And I have a good relationship with him. The fact is, that I think it is time maybe that we all do get along,” he told Hannity.
Beginning with the 2012 cycle, however, financial disclosures show that Trump has donated exclusively to Republican candidates and groups.

Believe whatever you want to believe. I do not believe he is sincere in his recently announced change of opinion.

In the year 2000 he said he supported “the ban on assault weapons”.

Now that he has discounted the AR-15 from that definition, it would be interesting to see which of the rifles included in that ban he DOES consider to be “assault weapons”.

Because under the definition to which he now SAYS he uses, NONE of the weapons affected by the Clinton “Assault Weapons” Ban.

He donated to Hillary for President. That's different than Hillary for Senate.

I'm not buying his excuses. I don't care what politicians SAY. I care about what they DO.

Cruz and Walker I'll consider. Trump is as bad as Jeb as far as I'm concerned, if not worse.

Trump makes dems crazy. I like that. Cruz has a good chance if he gets out there. Walker, I don’t think so.

We are way out still, so none of us should get too attached to a candidate until the field is winnowed down.

I’ll guarantee you one thing - if you were a business person in NYC - you would also donate to Demoncrats. It’s the cost of doing business in a liberal city/state.

I’m glad to read those comments.

I would add and ask Mr. Trump that at an appropriate time and place, mention that tho 0bama daughters have armed protection, and so to all the celebrities’ children and political officials as well (much of that armed protection is taxpayer funded to boot).

It is inconceivable that an average American either is banned from giving their own families armed protection, or they have to jump through significant hoops to get that done.

And when you think about it, that is the ultimate insult from the elites, is it not?
