Wal-Mart sued for denying health insurance to gay worker's wife

A Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) employee sued the retailer on Tuesday, saying its prior policy of denying health insurance to the spouses of gay employees violated gender discrimination laws....

Jackie Cote, who has worked at Walmart stores in Maine and Massachusetts since 1999, said in the lawsuit that her wife, Diana Smithson, developed cancer in 2012 and the denial of insurance led to more than $150,000 in medical debt.

Cote and Smithson were married in Massachusetts in 2004, days after a court ruling made the state the first to allow gay nuptials.

Smithson worked for Wal-Mart until 2008, when she left to care for Cote's elderly mother, according to the lawsuit. The company then repeatedly denied requests by Cote to add her wife to her insurance policy.

She worked for WalMart until 2008. She’s upset about not being able to add her to insurance in 2012 her lover developed cancer and that in 2013 the Supreme Court false gods made a decree.

How does she have standing? Was she paying WalMart premiums in 2008-2015?

Does she believe that she should’ve had coverage dating back to 2004 (date of ceremony)?

Are laws being retroactively changed?

They are going to want reparations for thousands of years of discrimination.

“The commission in recent years has pioneered the argument that employment discrimination against gay people is a form of gender discrimination, since it would not happen if an employee were of the opposite sex, but it has not been vetted by courts.”

Shacking up together does not guarantee coverage, it was the homofacsists who pushed for such benefits long before unmarried heterosexuals (at some employers) got that benefit as well.

She doesn’t have a wife. She has a sex-partner. A wife is a female married to a man.

Does Wal-Mart have to furnish insurance for sex-partners? These same sex sex-partners are high health risks. Most homosexual women are obese. Homosexual men get nasty diseases. Homosexuality is not a healthy life style.

Wow, exactly what I was thinking and you said it. Thank you. “You shall know them by their works.” ‘Nough said.

I’ve always wondered about the employers that do give benefits to those who live (unmarried) with employees. Can you covertly negotiate a roommate/girlfriend with the promise of a good insurance package?

One of them stayed employed at Wal-mart the whole time. At least that is what I gathered.

OK...so this is a “gay workers wife”. 1) why’d she marry him 2) why won’t she leave him and 3) what am I missing here?

higher insurance premiums and retail prices on the way.

And taxes. And fees (for pretty much everything).

I have believed from the very beginning of the "gay marriage" push, that the real issue wasn't "equality", but rather was "benefits". Especially government benefits; but corporate benefits, too.

That, and the ability to adopt children, to be their little pedophilic playthings.
