Trump attacks McCain: 'I like people who weren't captured'

Donald Trump might finally have crossed the line.

Appearing on Saturday at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, the real estate mogul took his running feud with Arizona Sen. John McCain to a new level.

“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

The remarks, which came after days of back-and-forth between McCain and Trump, were met with scattered boos.

In one statement, Trump just destroyed his own credibility (and he had actually been building some) and now probably gave McCain a huge boost in his own primary race for Senate.

You should:

(1) Learn how to write an English sentence, and

(2) Support your thesis with facts instead of anonymous assertions.

I’m really not a fan of Trump, but I’ll give him a partial pass on this.

Way too often people assume that being captured makes one a hero, as if all POWs are by definition heroic. Which is just silly. Sort of the inverse of the Japanese notion that being captured was cowardly and shameful.

What may be heroic is how one behaves while in captivity, or possibly the circumstances of the capture. From what I understand, McCain earned the designation while in captivity.

Yikes! This wasn’t a well placed thought, Donald.

Get back to moving the earth on immigration, quick.

(2) Support your thesis with facts instead of anonymous assertions.

That basically defines most of your posts in this particular thread.

Why was Brad Dayspring hired? Will he be Walker’s hatchet man like he was against conservatives during the Mississippi prinary?

I don’t think that’s his mission, but it could be the effect. He looks completely nuts and voters react to vote for Bush as the only “reasonable” candidate that has a chance.

Ron Paul served this purpose in the past two elections - he gave McCain especially a good foil to use to make himself look strong and competent.

Yes, I recall reading that his dad was quiet...unlike you know who.

I wish we had a less problematic candidate who wasn’t afraid of the GOPe and spoke up for us. I’m worried that we’re going to end up with jebillary - in one form or another.

Trump needs a filter installed between his brain and his mouth, he’s like my senile father-in-law.

Trump also fails completely to declare his positions on Obamacare, the homosexual agenda/religious freedom, "global warming" and the environmentalist agenda, Common Core, the minimum wage, or limited government conservatism.

For people who crave validation of their own anger and frustration, Trump is great.

For people who crave a candidate upon whom it's easy to project virtually any gratifying political philosophy, Trump is great.

For people who want to see America begin a long, fundamental restoration toward her original limited government with God-given rights Constitutional foundations openly established along Judeo-Christian values, Ted Cruz is the sole candidate.

McCain has promoted himself into the status of hero above the other POWs and those whose actions better fit the definition of heroic. He’s the equivalent of John F’n I served in Viet Name Kerrey. McCain is a self-promoter of his status. Hero is an overused and over-applied term.

Trump’s statement was poorly thought out but his general sentiment is not without some level of consensus among the general population. McCain has used his self-promoted status to bully and shout down those who disagree with him. He uses it to present himself as the expert on all matters, military, foreign policy, and otherwise.

“He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

POW and hero have been equated over the years for McCain. And NO I am not going to source the instances.

Had McCain not endured and survived as POW he would still be a hero as are all pilots and service personnel.

To be factual I believe.. Trump was just saying that the ones who were not captured went on to win the war -- not to malign the few who circumstances resulted in their capture.

And yes I do mean our Military and allies won the war.. it was lost in the quagmire of Washington, D. C. -- though cesspool is a better metaphor.

GeronL is likely correct: Trump's job in this primary is to lampoon and caricature conservative positions in order to discredit them, and to distract people's attention from non-buffoon conservatives like Cruz and Walker.

In the meantime, Jeb Bush builds his enormous war chest and waits for the loudmouth to clear the field for him.

Prediction: Trump will drop out of this race before he actually has to file documents disclosing how little he's really worth.

IIRC, McAmnesty was a bit of a, to put it generously, a troubled pilot, and he had to bail on his damaged F-4. He was an unnecessary risk taker, and that’s what got him shot down in the first place.

McAmnesty has overplayed his war hero status and it’s time for the “maverick” to STFU and retire. He has been the source of much failure in the Republican coalition to hold the line.

I reference his reference to Sen. Cruz as a wacko-bird, and other sellouts of Republicans, and of the people as a whole.

What is your link to your contention that Trump inherited billions and now has only a few—or however many—millions?

Maybe you need to educate yourself before making such foooish statements. Juan is despised by many veterans from the Vietnam era, and many from other eras who know about his behavior on the POW/MIA senate committe he co-chaired with Lurch Kerry in the early '90s.

Post #37 is consistent with what many have said and believe concerning McCain. You need to do some research because large numbers of people know facts about which you seem to have no knowledge.

Trump will not be stopped by something as insignificant as poking a stick at a widely despised fool like McLame.
