Scott Walker pushes back on flip-flop accusations (Immigration)
cnn ^ | July 19, 2015 | Dana Bash

Posted on 08/01/2015 9:46:56 AM PDT by Red Steel

A significant number of Iowa Republican caucus goers tend to be quite socially conservative, and Walker has been emphasizing conservative positions on everything from same-sex marriage to abortion.

He also flat out changed his position on illegal immigration, going from being open to a path to citizenship, to opposing it.

We read a quote from former Iowa GOP chair Craig Robinson, saying Walker makes former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney -- who changed his position over time on abortion, illegal immigration and other issues -- look like a "model of consistency."

"He's taking the lines form the opposition." Walker said,

"I said there should be a path (to citizenship) years ago, when I talked about going forward with legal immigration; I didn't talk about amnesty," Walker said. "In fact, I said in that specific interview I opposed the gang of five, the measure that Marco Rubio and others proposed."

"I said I'm pro-life but I can only imagine how difficult a decision must be for someone who's thinking about ending their pregnancy. That's why I support a law that provides more information to someone to make that decision," he said. "The law still leaves the decision to the woman and her doctor. As for me, I want to look out for the health and safety of all citizens in my state."

So he opposes illegal immigration, sort of. He is pro-life, kind of. He is against gay marriage but he won’t appeal it and he thinks conservatives should not challenge GOPE leaders in primaries....

does not sound like someone I’d want to vote for

Trump, Cruz, Walker - I really don't care which candidate ends up being the secure-the-borders-end-illegal-immigration guy.

As long as the GOPe is unsuccessful in suppressing and demoralizing the movement towards enforcement. Which they are using every means at their disposal to do.

Lots a flopping going on. The question is how close or independent is Walker to the GOPE, which will tell if he would really be effective for immigration control.

What a liar. It was all of two years ago that he was advocating legalization (amnesty), to be followed by citizenship, and his solution for the border was to make it possible for anyone from Mexico or any other country to come here so easily legally that they would have no incentive to bother crossing the border illegally.

That was his position two years ago!

I don’t mind flip-flopping so much if the guy is flipping in the right direction. Of course, I don’t want him to flip back the other direction either.

I haven’t seen the GOPE object to anything he has said, and I have seen him considering Marco Rubio for VP, which tells me he does not get it.

Also, in the appearances I have seen of him since his announcement, he really just does not impress me at all.

He’s quite dull. Carly Fiorina gives a better interview than Walker.

Walker is not the candidate for me.

He didn’t seem to notice a group calling itself Voices of the Frontier (presumably of Mexico) setting up shop in Wisconsin to assist illegal aliens colonize his state.

Trump isn’t even conservative nor a Republican.

His very presence as a Presidential candidate is a joke.

Scott Walker has been fighting the lefties for as long as he’s been in office.

Trump is a liberal, pays liberals and is currently trying to remain a distraction from actual Conservative candidates out there.

I’d crawl through barbed wire with ghost pepper hot sauce on the Utah salt flats to vote Trump out of the primary while keeping Walker in.

Yep. To be clear about my point if you’re close to the GOPE leadership you are going to tow the line and play jive games with the voters. Meaning they are not going to do anything effective about controlling immigration. Big special interests wins with the GOPE.

As Gov., what was Walker done about the sanctuary cities in his own state?

Killing in state tuition for illegals was a start.

Why on EARTH are ANY of you taking what Dana Bash has to say as the truth? Dana Bash writes NOTHING but hit pieces on Governor Walker.

Oh, wait - that fits in just fine with YOUR agenda, LOL! My bad. *SMIRK*

I’m gonna miss you all when you move to Canada in protest of President Walker and VP Cruz! :) (Not.)

I won’t vote for anyone whose campaign employs Dayspring. Aside from that, mentioning an amnesty whore like Rubio as a VP makes me want to vomit.
