Former Democratic Congressman Heath Shuler is actively exploring a Senate run in North Carolina, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell National Journal.
Should he run, Shuler, a former NFL quarterback who represented a district in the state's western half, would instantly become the Democrats top recruit for the Senate seat held by Republican incumbent Richard Burr. Earlier this year, former Sen. Kay Hagan turned down Democratic entreaties to run for office, and the party has since struggled to find another potential contender.
Shuler served three terms in the House before deciding not to seek re-election in 2012.

This chump would be an able ballot filler for the rats, but Burr isn’t gonna lose. The curse on the seat has been broken.
Mark Meadows needs to run for Burr’s seat.
Actually, Shuler is fairly conservative for a democrat....
What does that mean? That he will vote to confirm a conservative supreme court justice?
That he will vote to defund obamacare? To deport illegal immigrants as the law requires?
To defund Planned Parenthood and its evil baby parts marketing scheme?
Somehow I doubt it. That's not how Democrats work these days.
A Conservative Democrat today is a Marxist as opposed to being a Stalinist.
Also a champion of homosexualizing the military. Which branch of the service did his sons serve in? Him?
This supposes that the Fatwa has been lifted. Shuler and Giffords offended Don Nancy Pelosi of the Baltimore Nosa Costra. Giffords got two in the hat and Shuler disappeared.
That’s like saying a guy’s fairly good looking, for a severe burn victim.
