Skip to comments.Jeb Bush would rather you forget that his grandfather helped found Planned Parenthood

Can you name any historical figures who helped Planned Parenthood kick off its first fundraising campaign back in 1947? If you first guessed some progressive liberal icon, youd be wrong.
The die-hard public pro-life bona fides of George W. Bush and his brother and current GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush are undeniable. Jeb has repeatedly said that he would defund Planned Parenthood if hes elected, and its been a promise hes been making long before the Center for Medical Progress launched their viral undercover video campaign attacking the non-profit, claiming the organization was selling baby parts.
But a little known fact first resurfacing in a 2005 article in SFGate reveals that the grandfather and father of the last two Bush presidents, Prescott Bush, was the treasurer of the organization in its early years.
But even then, supporting a womans right to control over her own reproductive system was politically dangerous.
The political repercussions hit hard. Prescott Bush was knocked out of an expected victory for a Senate seat in Connecticut in 1950 after syndicated columnist Drew Pearson declared that it has been made known that Bush was a leader in the Birth Control Society (The old name of Planned Parenthood had been the Birth Control Federation of America.) Recall that contraceptives were controversial in those days and remember that a constitutional right to use them wasnt established until 1965, when the Supreme Court affirmed an implied right to privacy in Griswold vs. Connecticut.
Prescott Bush won a Senate seat two years later, and his son George and daughter-in-law Barbara continued to support Planned Parenthood even after Georges election to Congress from Texas. In fact, he was such an advocate for family planning that some House colleagues gave him the nickname Rubbers.

Oh did "Fair and Balance" Fox ask Jeb that question?
Keep in mind too Jeb said he was on the Planned Parenthood board because of Bloomberg (they both agree on Common Core).
Make no mistake the Bush family are knee deep in Planned Parenthood.
I would rather forget Jeb.
He lied about not knowing it was a major recipient of Bloomburg’s “charity foundation.”
As would I.
Going after him because of his grand father though is absurd.
He is pretending he has nothing to do with it. When his family is knee deep in it.
Agreed. Go after him because of his policies, not what his father or grandfather did or didn’t do.
or that jeb was on the board of an organization that gave a lot of money to planned murder and butchery.
Doesn’t matter. Mitt Romney profited from PP via Stericycle, gave his personal cash to them and legislated on their behalf... and ‘Pro Life’ frauds crawled across cut glass to vote for him.
Ol’ Prescott was probably too uninformed to know what PP was all about; no excuse for Jebbie though.
While we don’t think much of Jebbie, there are the Republican primary voters of FL and TX who will have a more sobering answer as they desperately seek a Third Bush.
Planned Parenthood Margaret Sangers brainchild ....
Yeah, I bet he wants us to forget about that and a lot of other things we are looking for....
I am a TED CRUZ supporter, yet I cannot let your assertion go unchallenged. I was one of about 200 people across the USA who tried to save Terri Schaivo’s life, and her death/murder broke my heart. Jeb Bush DID try to save Terri, and he did so knowing it would gain him nothing. His efforts failed, but he was up against the forces of darkness, including Bishop Lynch, whose efforts to help TS be murdered were so apparent that he eventually was rebuked by the Vatican. (I write this as a practicing Catholic — then and now.) After Terri Schaivo died, I sent a thank you note along with a copy of “A Man for All Seasons” to Jeb Bush, in gratitude for his having tried to save TS’s life. I expected nothing in return, but got a personal, written thank you from Governor Bush.
On another topic, it isn't Jeb Bush's fault that his grandmother and mother and other ancestors were Planned Parenthood supporters, anymore than it is my own fault that many of my own ancestors were Democrats!
Thanks, very solid personal information.
I, for one, was not aware of this. I was aware, however, of his grandfather, Prescott, as a member of Skull & Bones, as was GWB. Jeb needs to go the way of the Whigs - I will not nor or ever vote for him., And, let’s not forget - Bush 41 is a supporter and advocate for New World Order. Is it safe to assume that the offspring also share this philosophy? I also think Jeb lied about the Politico report. I believe he did say those things about Trump.
Apparently, I’m a human weed.
The man looks a little cross-eyed. Was he kicked back on the ranch in texas? he kinda looks like a grown up Ralphie from Christmas story minus the pink bunny suit.
